The Orange Underwing (Archiearis parthenias) flies around the leafless canopy of mature birch trees on sunny, still days in early spring 🌳

They rarely descend low enough for close inspection, so binoculars are a must!

Here are some better photos of the Carpenterworm Moth, Prionoxystus robiniae, which visited last night.😁. This was a rather large (2 inches/ 5.08 cm) moth.

The Liquorice Piercer is so named because its caterpillars pierce Wild Liquorice seed pods.
