A photograph of the western wall of St Michael's Hospital shot from the Massey Hall passerelle. The lighting levels have been played with — particularly the black point and shadows — to bring the layering of windows into focus.
Two rectangular art nouveau stained glass windows in tones of orange, cream, and light blue are reflected from the original 1890s exterior wall onto the glass addition. The glass enclosed walkway looks onto St Michael's Hospital and connects the Hall's front of house to the new lounges and backstage spaces added to the rear of the building. The warm colouration is a sharp contrast to the cool practicality of the hospital's lights.
Even late into the evening, many of the hospital's floors remain brightly lit. In the middle at the left of the frame, one of the few darkened windows catches a tiny reflection of a pair of arched windows from the gallery level above the photographer. The harsh lighting of the hospital spills sharply through doors at the bottom right corner onto the street.
There is a bright lamp in the bottom left of the frame. In the top right corner, interior lighting near the photographer is creating a bit of a soft halo.
