Whoa, this is an extraordinary #Opilione. It’s an 11min watch, fascinating and well done.

Never seen one but will look out for them if I’m in the Netherlands later in the year.

I can't seem to ID this #Opilione from 11/06/25 in my #Staffs garden, is it immature? @megabunus.bsky.social @opiliones.bsky.social

Sadocus asperatus (left) & Pachylus chilensis (right) are some of the most archaic arachnids around! They belong to the Opilione family & have no venom glands so pose no danger to humans. They also lack silk glands and therefore do not build webs.

Set free the harvestman or Opilione makes its way across the lawn, keeping a beady eye on me.

Hi @vannabartlett.bsky.social please can you help me identify this #Opilione ?

Short legs apart from pair 2 against a really chunky body. Found in some scrap wood to be recycled but rescued and set free.

An image of an Opilione (common names: Harvestman and Daddy-long-legs). It is Dicraopalpus ramosus, a distinctive harvestman with forked palps. This harvestman appears quite sad, slumped over a plant stem, looking forlornly at the camera.

Local harvestman discovers that having eight legs doesn't help carry the weight of perpetual misidentification by humans.

Opilio canestrinii a species of harvestmen stood over a spider egg sack, from which it was feeding. The harvestmen stayed near to this food source for a couple days returning each evening to feed from it.
Bad weather or predation dislodged the harvestman and a few days later, spiderlings emerged from the egg sack.

Whether it was feeding on the egg yolk, unhatched young or both, I couldn’t tell. Little is known about the feeding behaviour of this species, most opinions species are opportunistic scavengers.

Zero posting here for a while from, far too focused sorting and filing 12 yrs worth of photos. 😒😳
HNY to all followers and here’s an #opilione pic from winter 2021.
