Leaf litter under a palm tree in rainforest. Theres a flower down low that has fallen from the palm. Nobbly twigs that held the fruit. And ruptured palm seeds, the red flesh long gone, now erupting with fungi. + other random forest stuff idk

I took a moment under a Bangalow palm tree today, to photograph the leaf litter under me. They drop a lot of fruit. A lot. And if the combo of beetles to bore holes in their seeds shells, and #Penicillium coccotrypicola fungi to colonize it, is present. It gets quite weird and funky down there.

Its so wild. We need an infinite amount of new taxonomists! We want to save our diversity? We need to discover the species, NAME THEM, and then, we can work on conserving them. My favourite taxonomist has to be #RogerShivas of #Penicillium #coccotrypicola fame :) Such good work on micro fungi

hmmmmm..... have to admit I have seen some pretty fungi growing out of poo in rainforest. #Penicillium vulpinum for example loves possum poo. Always lots of pin molds and cannon balls too. For me #Coprophilous fungi are accidental finds, distractions from zombies, that can trick at distance.
