Great to see #PWC2023 make its way over here. And big congrats to my neighbour, David Roche, on neighbouring Papa Westray for doing so well on this fab fun competition- top of the islands league and third over all ππΌ And a terrific poem too! Defo worth the watch. And take part in #PWC2024!

Managed a cracking full day #WestrayBirding π ahead of a week of storms βΉοΈ 10 Glaucs and an Ice Gull, Common Scoter, couple of Merlins, Snow Buntings, Woodcock and a Grey Plover. Latter a useful add for my 10km @PatchBirding. Prob the same bird that snook in at end of #PWC2023.

Will the #PWC2024 scoring spreadsheet be the same as #PWC2023 or do I need to download a new version?
Nice walk after lunch today with the family meant I completed my 90th complete #PaullHolmeStrays @btobirds.bsky.social Birdtrack list of the year, and my 100th overall for the site.
Hen Harrier, Merlin and GWE all just 2nd records of the year for me.

Serin perched
Still some Serins at airfield Bremgarten at the end of the year. Curious to see how long they will stay. #PWC2023 #lowcarbonbirding #birds
After 2 days of being unable to get out of bed due to an awful lurgy, I finally managed a walk at lunch.
Rewarded with a brief view of a Peregrine as it put up thousands of plover, a close view of a Marsh Harrier, and a nfy Barnacle Goose flew in with some PFG. #PaullHolmeStrays #UKBirding #PWC2023
Under the weather, but decided a quick walk might help clear my head. Went to Saltend, a neglected part of my patch.
Beautiful walk, with a Peregrine flying overhead for a good 5 minutes. Definitely helped with the cold!

Very cold lunch break on #PaullHolmeStrays. Just a little walk from the car park. A very showy Cetti's Warbler was jumping around the reeds.
Biggest surprise though was a couple of Canada Geese amongst the Greylags and Pink-foots. Surprisingly a reserve tick for me.

Bit cold today, but still managed a little walk on the patch with Ada.
Goldcrest giving good views, and a noisy Great Spotted Woodpecker. Too foggy to see much else!

Juvenile Pallid Swift, Noup Head, Westray, Orkney, 3 November 2023
Boom! π π»ββοΈ thatβll do! Pallid Swift on my #WestrayBirding Noup Head patch late afternoon and @PatchBirding #PWC2023 #PatchGold. Second for Orkney and first for the isle. Makes up for the distant swift I couldnβt nail during last autumns Pallid influx x.com/stevedudley_...
Lovely Whinchats π Two at Longstanton Lagoons today bringing my #PWC2023 total up to π―! Picked out by @Laziobirder yesterday, with one/another bird found by @Pyrethrum53 on Saturday @CambsBirdClub
Very unexpected flock of 12 Common Sandpiper at Longstanton Lagoons this lunchtime, managing to find a bit of edge. Need the water to drop a bit more! Sadly & typically they departed after being flushed by a group of dogs. A high count for the patch though #PWC2023 @CambsBirdClub
Self-found, first-for-site lifer on the patch!! Doesn't get much better than that! π Apart from actually seeing the bird and getting a photo π€£ but I'm happy. Singing Quail at Longstanton Lagoons #PWC2023 @CambsBirdClub @PatchBirding
I do love a Wheatear, and even more so on the patch! π Smokin' hot male at Longstanton Lagoons today #PWC2023 @PatchBirding @CambsBirdClub
LRPs have arrived in Cambourne! Hopefully this heralds the start of a stream of varied waders #PWC2023 #daretodream @CambsBirdClub
Unexpected DOUBLE tick on my other #PWC2023 patch (Cambourne) this lunchtime: 2 Redpolls picking up fallen seeds from Redgrave Water, and a Cetti's calling from the reeds! π #patchtick @PatchBirding @CambsBirdClub
Slow and steady on my first @PatchBirding challenge: 54 sp. 58pts at Longstanton Lagoons so far, but a nice Oystercatcher patch tick this lunchtime made me smile π Slow and steady wins the race right...? #PWC2023 @CambsBirdClub
First real excitement of the year on the patch Glaucous gull at Kilmory #PWC2023 @PatchBirding @SkyeBirdsBob @CasualBirderPod
Blustery, gloomy and very mild on a quick visit to the Aston's Eyot patch this morning. Daily coverage helped by daily dog-walks at this site! Canada Goose and a quick visit from a hunting adult male Kestrel were new for the year, now 44 spp #PWC2023
A short visit to Aston's Eyot & the Kidneys today in heavy rain produced just one addition for #PWC2023 when a hunting Sparrowhawk (#42) flashed across the Cherwell. No photos of that, but one of the 2 Pied Wagtails wintering on the football pitch allowed a rare close approach.
Relaxed start to #PWC2023 so far; 2nd amble around Aston's Eyot & the Kidneys in central Oxford this morning yielded Chiffchaff, Treecreeper & LBB Gull new for the year & the highlight a flock of 9 Fieldfare over - a relatively scarce bird in this part of the city - now on 41 spp
