The Friedenskirche glows in the soft, raking light of an early April morning, its warm ochre sandstone set against a sky of flawless blue. Not a ripple disturbs the ornamental pond, created specifically for this church, the only one in Sanssouci Park with its own reflective water feature. The seven-storey campanile rises in perfect symmetry both above and below the waterline, its cross catching the morning sun against the blue. The Romanesque Revival basilica, built for King Friedrich Wilhelm IV between 1845 and 1854, reads with rare crispness in the clear light, every arched arcade and rounded apse precise and weightless at once. Bare trees frame the scene without crowding it, and a weeping willow on the right bank hints at its first green. The meadow grass holds that vivid, green that belongs only to April. The image carries the specific stillness of a Sunday morning before the park fills with visitors, a moment of pure, unhurried calm in one of Brandenburg’s most beautiful UNESCO-listed landscapes.

Trees growing together over a grave is a natural phenomenon known as inosculation.
