A male Killdeer, a type of Plover, standing in a puddle at the edge of a parking lot next to mud with small stones and grasses behind him. The bird's normal colors are brownish-tan on top and white below. The white chest is barred with two black bands, and the brown face is marked with black and white patches. They have a bright orange-buff rump. The eyes are dark with a bright red eye ring. Seen during the spring nesting season at Parker River NWR in Newbury, Massachusetts (Plum Island). The Killdeers had built a nest in the middle of a small, open parking lot and the female was on the nest, which had been roped off by the staff.
For the first #BODT theme of the year of bird captures in mono, this male Killdeer was focused on guarding his mate in a nest nearby (Parker River NWR, Newbury, MA - June 2025) 😍💕
