When we consume joy, it forfeits its immortality. When joy consumes us, we forfeit our death; for the joy we’ve joined will persist in making its rounds, like dawn, public transportation, the solstice, and the generations to come.

Winter Moon How thin and sharp is the moon tonight! How thin and sharp and ghostly white Is the slim curved crook of the moon tonight!

Post image Post image I stared
Through closed eyelids
Into darkness because
Four AM is too early
To open eyes.
I made my coffee
A little stronger
At five o'clock,
Consuming the darkness
In a white coffee cup.
The same tiredness
Followed me
From the bedroom,
Where the dog
Was now
Curled up
In my spot,
Resting her head
On my pillow,
Stealing the sleep
That refuses
My touch.
Dawn wakes slowly,
Too,
Grey and colorless,
With an impotent sun,
Hiding
Behind recalcitrant clouds.

Dust of Snow
by Robert Frost

The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree

Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of the day I rued.
