Polyphemus moth (Antheraea polyphemus)
He been hanging out for a couple days.

Two realistic moths (top is a green/white luna moth, bottom is an orange/gray/black polyphemus moth) painted on clear glass in a frame. Inside the frame is a black and white photo of two girls, which is mounted on a muted purple mat board and partially covered by the moths. The piece is sitting on a distressed white table top.

Found Photo Pieces ~ a variation of my typical moth & butterfly paintings; rather than resting in the frame on their own, the insects share the space w/ a photo mounted under the glass, adding a layer of nostalgia to the story 🤍

I spotted a single wing of this devoured moth the other day and soon found each piece of wing. Arrange them to see the beautiful patterns and shapes, knowing that it was a bit of a grotesque display with nobody to connect them to. Some bird, bat, squirrel or other predator had a good meal. The black and white image shows a dark background of wood mulch. Resting in the center of the image are four moth wings that were removed from the thorax. The wings are bright against the dark background, except for the eye-like spots that create even more unease. There is a healthy dose of macabre and beauty in this photo.
