Hypothesising after the results are known

Dichotomization is only one of the issues leading to the vicious circle of #ResearchWaste. Many reasons, one I'm finding deeply troubling, being the suboptimal (oh, I'm polite), suboptimal (quantity & quality) education in biostats & research methods in med schools. #MedEd has serious catch up to do
INSPECT-SR is a tool to address risks posed by untrustworthy randomized controlled trials:
www.cochrane.org/about-us/new...
The focus is on use in #SysReviews, but I think it may offer opportunities for training in #RCT methods.
I'll find out - just registered 👇

#CochraneDaily #PubMed has reached 11,000 records for systematic reviews relevant to #COVID-19 13 months after reaching 10,000. How many of these are needed? How much research waste do they represent, 5 years on from this opinion piece: blogs.bmj.com/bmj/2020/04/...

#EvidenceSynthesis
just read a #stats paper which advised that if your #neuroscience data are skewed you should discard the top & bottom 10% & compute 'trimmed means' which are 'more robust' (transformation was dismissed as an alternative)
i'm sorry if you read that advice & deleted 20% of your data 🫣
#ResearchWaste
Isn’t this a role for #preprints? Widely disseminated, findable, citable reports on what doesn’t work - my sister is a computational organic chemist - I have always wondered why they don’t report reactions that don’t work - and save everyone else time and money #ResearchWaste

Why does reproducibility matter? Matt Anticole’s video explained the reproducibility crisis and remaining challenges eight years ago (buff.ly/2DkbSBE). Many of them are still unsolved. Join us at researchagora.com to help strengthen science for everyone.

I enjoyed reading this. It's important to question if research is needed. And, if so, by whom and in what direction? Many scholars and practitioners are encouraged to DO research rather than USE research. #ResearchWaste is a problem. As is lack of synthesising and implementing evidence.

The most important question before supporting any #OpenScience initiative is how exactly it helps build a usable and reliable scientific knowledge base.
Few do.

Looking at COVID-related #RCTs registered btw [01 Nov 19 - 31 Dec 21] available via WHO #ICTRP, authors find that less than a third made their results public and registry entries were frequently not updated:

Looking for something to continue the #ISOQOL buzz?
How about reading "Reducing research wastage by starting off on the right foot" from QLR's special issue on #ResearchWaste?

Excellent summary of great ideas to prevent #ResearchWaste due to poor #StudyMethods. Strong plea to only embark on research that can answer its questions. https://go.nature.com/3Gfr7RP

From @ISOQOL's QualityTALK 👇
The paper shows ANZCTR-registered trials increasingly include patient-reported outcomes and asks, how many of them do/will report their results?
