A round brass porthole (painted black) with an amber coloured pane, in a museum display case. There is a shell on the pane, from its decades spent underwater.
This porthole is from RMS Tayleur, a large clipper built at #Warrington on the #RiverMersey in 1853. She foundered in the Irish Sea in 1854, with the loss of more then 300 passengers and crew. The item was recovered in 1972 and is now on display in W'ton Museum. #FindsFriday #Museums

Oxmoor local nature reserve, earlier today. It is among what was once marshlands along the left bank of the #RiverMersey east of #Runcorn, now largely covered over with industrial and logistical concrete. Oxmoor is a haven for warblers and more, helps manage local flooding. #Nature #Cheshire

Three trips to Mull and never saw an Otter nearer than 200 yards away. Walking the dogs along the Mersey today and came across one 20 feet away. Happily fishing as he went, seemed quite unperturbed by passers by.
