Today is #SafeguardingSunday and the start of our Diocesan #SafeguardingWeek.

It’s a biblical mandate to care for the vulnerable. Today, we thank those who are working tirelessly to keep us safe, and remind ourselves that #safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

Today is #SafeguardingSunday, a Thirty One Eight initiative, which invites communities to reflect on their safeguarding journey. We hold in prayer all survivors of abuse and reaffirm our commitment to making the Church a place of safety for all.

Down the left-hand side in black text are bullet points which read: ‘Safeguarding Sunday happens every year on the third Sunday of November. It's a time to refocus on the importance of safeguarding in our churches. This year the theme is ‘Action Speaks Louder’ – encouraging churches to take positive action towards creating safe places. Mae Sul Diogelu yn digwydd bob blwyddyn ar drydydd Sul mis Tachwedd. Mae'n amser i ail-ganolbwyntio ar bwysigrwydd diogelu yn ein heglwysi. Eleni’r thema yw ‘Action Speaks Louder’ – annog eglwysi i gymryd camau cadarnhaol tuag at greu lleoedd diogel.’ Under the megaphone is a stamp which reads “Safeguarding: it’s everyone’s responsibility. Diogelu: Mae pawb yn gyfrifol”.

People often ask us what happens once a safeguarding referral is made to a Parish Safeguarding Officer.

When Stu Otten became a Christian in his early twenties, he wanted to turn his lived experience of criminality into something positive.

With #SafeguardingSunday approaching, we asked Stu some questions about #safeguarding and what he wishes people and churches understood better.

#safeguardingsunday Last week was a tough one for so many, today as a church we reflected on what it means to have 'life in all it's fullness', we prayed for survivors of abuse and committed ourselves to be a place of safety.

So #SafeguardingSunday was demanding, but went well. A visitor gifted us a rather beautiful moment at the gospel too - an opportunity to show that ‘all are welcome’ means what it says. I finished on ‘encourage one another’ from Hebrews reading, which we must do if safeguarding is to work well.

Presided today wearing a stole gifted to me by someone bullied out of a curacy & shamefully failed by the church that promised to form them in priesthood. I'm so tired tonight but honoured to be trusted with this precious gift & to take it to the altar #safeguardingsunday #cofe
