Lots of butterfly activity near Hickling Broad this morning, most providing just a fleeting glance. This Peacock like me did take the opportunity to enjoy the warm sunshine. #savebutterflies
1 Small Tortoiseshell & 4 Peacocks at Upton Marshes yesterday. Stunning day to visit the Norfolk Broads. #savebutterflies
1st butterfly visitor of the year to my North Norfolk garden yesterday, a Peacock before the mist came in. Have you had any butterflies in your garden yet this year? #savebutterflies
Punched the air with joy, my 1st butterfly sighting of the year. The unmistakable sight of a Brimstone flying in front of the car this morning near Blickling. #savebutterflies
Amazing given the weather 9 butterflies have been reported flying this year, the 1st on 15 January. 3 species Peacock, Red Admiral & Small Tortoiseshell. #savebutterflies
Grey and damp in N. Norfolk this morning. Time to look back at some of my highlights from 2024. A glance through my images reminded me of my 1st Silver-washed Fritillary in the garden, sightings of Clouded Yellow and ground level encounters with Purple Hairstreak. What were yours? #savebutterflies
Twice in the last 4 years my 1st butterfly sighting of the year has been on the 27 January. Last year it was a Brimstone, a Peacock in 2022. Not this year I am afraid. 🌧️ #savebutterflies

Thank you to Jenny Waziak for brightening up a rather drab day by sending us images of her butterfly year. #savebutterflies
Entries to our annual Photographic Competition were on display at our members afternoon on Saturday. Those present voted this image of a Lang's Short-tailed Blue taken by Harry Faull as winner of the International Section. #savebutterflies
Large Skipper seen today in Kalamaki in Zakinthos. Very late for this species to be flying, usually seen May to August. The 21st species of butterfly I have seen here since 3rd October.
Went out for a walk this afternoon in Kalamaki in Zakinthos during a brief break in the clouds and rain. Found this Large Skipper which really isn't supposed to be flying at this time of year. #Savebutterflies
This tiny butterfly seen today, Lang's Short-tailed Blue, was in great condition, as was the Painted Lady also featured in this post. The Robin photo was taken during the rain with a dark car behind it making it look as if it was dark.
Another great day in Kalamaki in Zakinthos. 14 butterfly species this afternoon before the rain set in. Here Lang's Short-tailed Blue, Robin singing in the rain, Painted Lady and Swallow. #Savebutterflies #BirdsSeenIn2025
Mallow Skipper and Common Blue seen today within walking distance of our hotel in Kalamaki in Zakinthos taking my trip total to 20 butterfly species. #Savebutterflies
Lots of Clouded Yellow butterflies in Kalamaki in Zakinthos today. They are so variable in appeal, some almost white, others yellow or orange depending on the light.
Four photos of Clouded Yellow butterflies taken over the last few days in Kalamaki in Zakinthos showing how much their appearance can vary for #Savebutterflies
Millet Skipper, Pigmy Skipper, Brimstone and Holly Blue in the hills behind Kalamaki in Zakinthos today. #Savebutterflies
Hundreds of Painted Ladies, dozens of Clouded Yellows, several Southern Swallowtail and half a dozen Plain Tigers today on Zakinthos. Also Large White, Small White, Lang's Short-tailed Blue, Long-tailed Blue, Mediterranean Skipper, Meadow Brown and Eastern Bath White. #Savebutterflies
A pristine Red Admiral and a rather battered Speckled Wood finding warmth in the sun and shelter from a strong wind in North Norfolk this morning. #savebutterflies
Meadow Brown today in Kalamaki on Zakinthos. #Savebutterflies
A beautiful Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui) yesterday at Port Lympne in Kent.

Common Blue (male) laden in dewy droplets.
It should really be called a ‘Liberace Blue’ with the morning ‘Bling’ and its Crystal Lapels embellished to add a little sparkle.

1 of 4 Red Admirals enjoying the sun in my North Norfolk garden yesterday. In the autumn rotting fruit and flowers of Ivy are great favourites for them. #savebutterflies
This Wall found a shelter from a cool north wind on the North Norfolk coast yesterday. #savebutterflies
A couple of hours spent at #greathollandpits today with good numbers of 3rd brood Common Blue and Small Copper on the wing.
