A countdown of the best five #ChurchesToVisitSalisburyToTheSea. In at number 4: #StMaryFordingbridge #Hampshire. An architectural history tour, wonderful C15 tower sandwiched between aisle and chapel and the most beautiful stained glass window. Truly fascinating although a tiny bit untidy for Mouse

If Mouse is honest, and Mouse always is, this scamper has not been exactly filled with fine fonts but this C14 example is interesting, if only for the worn arcading on the faces

Fabulous C15 timbers of the nave roof #Woodensday

A C15 tower added between the C13 north aisle and north chapel on thin arches and supported by huge buttresses. Mouse say: "Lovely" #TowerTuesday
#TheBestOfSalisburyToTheSea tracery: #StMaryFordingbridge #Hampshire
The churches of the Avon leading to the sea are not overwhelmed by good tracery but this C19 example of five lights and decorated roundel is the best
#TheBestOfSalisburyToTheSea arcade arches: #StMaryFordingbridge #Hampshire. With no written reference the arcade arch is a good guide to the age of a church. These C13 double chamfered pointed arches on clustered columns to the north chapel are particularly fine #MasonryMonday
#TheBestOfSalisburyToTheSea stained glass: #StMaryFordingbridge #Hampshire
As much for the light in which it bathes the north chapel as for the glass, but gorgeous #StainedGlassSunday
Well that Prosecco went down a treat. It's time to nominate #TheBestOfSalisburyToTheSea from the #SalisburyToTheSea2024 scamper. Starting with church exterior. Unlike the Ebble, these churches aren't particularly beautiful, but #StMaryFordingbridge is the most interesting

Mouse has been known to be a bit sniffy about modern stained glass in churches (even without a cold), but found this truly beautiful #StainedGlass. For more follow: #FordingbridgeChurchNorthChapel (2/6)

The church of #StMaryFordingbridge #Hampshire has a wide array of memorial tablets, but Mouse just pick two. #FordingbridgeChurchMemorials (1/2): C17 wooden painted memorial
Piscina bowl, chancel, #StMaryFordingbridge #Hampshire (post junk hoick)
Mouse say it every time but piscina bowls are often ornately carved, this having a lovely scallop pattern. These tiny details are quite amazing in such a large church
No visit to a church would be complete without a piscina (if there is one) and this is a particularly fine C13 example with pointed cinquefoil head. Mouse had to hoick masses of junk out of it. A church is a religious building but respect the heritage people! #StMaryFordingbridge #Hampshire
Rather lovely ambry in the chancel of #StMaryFordingbridge #Hampshire with painted door and (if you zoom in a bit) some rather lovely stone carving on the lip below

C13 north aisle arch (top) and C15 tower arch (below) #StMaryFordingbridge #Hampshire. The builders had a challenge squeezing the tower arches into this bay of the aisle. It seems a small amount of support for such a large tower. For more follow: #FordingbridgeChurchTower (5/6)
