Photograph taken using a macro setting looking up at a pale cream Hellebore flower in the local garden centre. Dark green leaf at the bottom of the image provides contrast. Petals are pale cream / soft lime towards the centre. The carpels are a pale yellow with white tips and twist over each other tightly. The stamens are a riotous white mess with pale gold tips. Lastly there are some larger stamens resting against the petals which are very yellow. The base of the petals is a rich green. Love this plant for the unruly nature of its flower and that its beauty is hidden normally, have to get down low to see it. Perfect 😊

This photo - taken by my partner - shows a rosebush full of white flowers in full bloom at its crest. Their petals are open to reveal golden yellow stamens at their centres - food for bees and other pollinators. The foliage of this climbing rose is a rich, dark green, its leaves looking almost glossy in the bright sunlight. Above all is the brilliant blue sky backdrop we had been waiting for, after many days of clouds and -tbh, much needed - rain. The azure blue of that sky sets off this abundance of white roses. The rosebush is entwined with a Cotoneaster plant - which has long stems - with narrow, dark green leaves - some of which can be seen sticking out at the top, above the cluster of roses. The Cotoneaster has proven to be a great support plant for the rosebush and - to our surprise - we only noticed this year that the Cotoneaster also has flowers, though they’re very tiny & impossible to see here. Small as those flowers are, they, too, have proved attractive to bees, who prise open the tiny cup-shaped blooms to get nectar and pollen. (Further down our feed is a closeup photo my partner managed to take of a bee feeding on a tiny Cotoneaster flower). There’s such a bounty here - not only for our eyes, but more importantly for wildlife; the Cotoneaster eventually produces red berries in Autumn/Winter, which is great food for birds. A rose plant like this - as with all rosebushes & many flowering plants - will benefit from frequent dead-heading: snipping off any spent flowers. This ensures it will continue to produce blooms - and provide for bees and pollinators- for months to come. Garden For Wildlife 🙏. With habitats rapidly disappearing, they need all the help they can get! Even if you only have room for one potted plant outdoors there are short-growing, bee-friendly/nectar rich, flowering shrubs that will bring joy to your life and lifesaving food to the many small creatures who rely on flowering plants. 🙏❤️🦋 🐝 🐌🐦
