#Whatisitwednesday? This fantastic artefact is actually a piece of trench art – a lampshade made from a #WW1 German shell. It was made in Mesopotamia in 1918 and was brought back as a souvenir to the UK by a soldier of the South Wales Borderers.

This is a driver-side view of of the 1957 Aurora, a one-off prototype by Juliana Custom Cars, Inc., Branford, CT USA.

The gull-wing side windows and bulbous front winshield design were to be safety features for the cars of the future. The windshield shape was to minimize head injuries of front seat occupants in a collison.

The fiberglass body paint is metalic gray. Exterior door pillars are trimmed in ribbed chrome (or possibly aluminum). Dashboard, interior pillars, and horizontal door cushions are trimmed in a mottled of gray and white horizontally streaked fabric.

The futuristic wrap-around swivel bucket seats are stitched in padded vertical ribs of white vinyl that matches the padded interior side walls.

Lane Motor Museum, Nashville, TN USA.

#WhatIsItWednesday? Your guess is as good as ours! This pic of three of the 2nd Bn, South Wales Borderers, definitely poses more questions than it answers! No idea what’s going on but we do know that RSM Sydney Bean is on the right and that Bandmaster Fenner is astride the lion. Taken in 1914. #WW1

#WhatIsItWednesday – this odd-looking artefact is a bible bound with wood to protect it while crossing the Orange River in South Africa! The bible belonged to Private Fred Walby who served with the South Wales Borderers during the Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902).

Hallelujah!

I was victorious this week in the #WhatIsItWednesday challenge set by the Museum of Everyday Life on Instagram.

It was a Braille notepad.

This makes up for crashing out of today’s #Wordle though I’m sure my nerd knowledge will be found lacking next week. In the meantime happy me!

#WhatIsItWednesday? A fan makes for an unusual object in a regimental collection but here we have one taken from a Japanese staff car after an attack by the 6th Bn, Welch Regiment, in 1944. The battalion ambushed a colony of Japanese vehicles on the road from Maymo to Mandalay in Burma during #WW2.

Some of us might know that Warren lived in Hermosa Beach, California, Sun Valley, Idaho, and Orcas Island, Washington. But for #WhatIsItWednesday, we wanted to know what Colorado ski town Warren Miller lived in. Can you guess?

Answer revealed tomorrow in the comments here.

Aviation jargon explained: "calling the ball" or "meatball" - refers to a pilot's call when they see the landing signal lights during an aircraft carrier approach. It indicates they are on the right glide path for landing.
