The delicate crystal chandeliers of the Great Hall of Nymphenburg Palace seem to float in the air.

The grand entrance to the palace. The throne room is in the far rear, with the diagonal shadow dropping from right to left.

A view of the grand entry arches from the palace interior. Columns on the right hint at the imposing architecture of this palace. The palace was largely ruined by a huge earthquake in the region in 8th century.

Architectural detail — a semicircular alcove to the side of the long aisle approach to the throne room. The bright sun warms the bricks on the right. The perfect, signature Jordanian sky contrasts beautifully with the brick wall.

The view through a side doorway really captures the warm glow of the desert sun’s power radiating from everything it touches.

Looking upward inside the circular entrance hall of Wimpole Hall, showing a pale green neoclassical domed ceiling with a central skylight and chandelier. An interior photograph of Palais Garnier in Paris. Massive, multilayer chandeliers hang from ornate ceiling roses nestled between painted murals. The heavily detailed mouldings, columns, frames, and other millwork are covered from floor to ceiling in gold leaf. Doorways are hung with elaborate tapestry valances and curtains which—unsurprisingly—are also predominantly gold. Architect Charles Garnier reportedly told Empress Eugenie his work was "Napoleon III style", which presumably means 'I smushed together the most ostentatious styles previously known and then bedazzled the shit out of it'.

Initially named le nouveau Opéra de Paris, the extraordinary opulence quickly led to it being called Palais Garnier instead. Understated it is most definitely not.

Photograph taken looking up at a sturdy yet decorative wooden chandelier at the Tudor wonder of Speke Hall, Liverpool. One of my former offerings (from the same room) was suspended by an arm...so why not also show some faces! No further body parts, I promise! Dark wood, multi-layer chandelier, with carved faces protruding from the octagonal (I think) sides of the lowest tier. Carved patterns on the sides of each arm, each topped by a warm candle bulb (obviously not original). Chandelier hangs from a hefty chain.
