Open pit surrounded by caution tape and barricades on the southwest corner of Winnemac and Ashland
Same spot at night after the barricades were predictably knocked over
I guess this didn’t upload yesterday but heads up #bikechi there’s a big open trench on Winnemac just west of Ashland for (very necessary) sewer work. It’s covered by an unsecured plate and surrounded by sand and gravel, so I‘ll be avoiding that bit.

Inconsistency/general poor quality of streets and trails/paths in Chicago have me questioning my wisdom. TIYA!

Excerpt from Chicago Public Library blog post on Ella LaBagh River Parks and Boulevards To ensure that city residents had access to nearby natural spaces, the Public Improvement Committee proposed the creation of a system of boulevards and natural areas on Chicago's North and West sides. The system would start near the North Branch of the Chicago River at Diversey and head north. On the West Side, it would follow the Des Plaines River south from Des Plaines all the way to the village of Riverside. LaBagh frequently recounted that she was inspired to begin this work when she noticed trees being cut down as she biked along the North Branch of the Chicago River.

Very cool to know that Ella LaBagh, the namesake of LaBagh Woods, was a biker!

Just got back from a ride on the North Branch Trail. I wasn't able to get a picture, but the work on the crossing is serious BS. You can get across the road going west, but you don't have a curb split anywhere. You have to hop an 8"+ curb to get back on the trail. #bikechi

We recently got more blue @divvybikes.bsky.social in Beverly & Morgan Pk still have almost no e-bikes. With stations far apart and not near a lot of destinations, blue bikes are a lot less useful. Meanwhile some Loop stations are ALL e-bikes. S side needs more love. @davidpowe.bsky.social #bikechi

I just snitched on a fleet driver who was driving recklessly and almost hit a pedestrian. The person taking the call at the front office seemed genuinely appreciative. We should not hesitate to do this when we’re fortunate enough to get the vehicle number. #bikechi
