A macro photograph of a tiny leafhopper (family Cicadellidae) perched in profile on a rough gray surface. Its compact body is dark brown with pearly white spots, and it sports a striking blue-green tail. Its large, rounded eyes are a bright, intense red. The slender legs rest firmly on the surface. The background is blurred in warm orange and gray tones, and in the lower corner, there are small fragments of yellow lichen. A tiny creature, invisible to the naked eye, revealed in all its detail.

My local park railings produced some goodies today, including 2 tiny nymphs that are probably Issus coleoptratus, as I've had several adults here lately, & what I think, from the dark bar down its face, is Acericerus vittifrons. #cicadellidae

What an incredible month November has been so far, and thanks to simply shaking some leaves.

Three new leafhoppers for me, two of these possibly new to Essex.

Cicadellidae nymphs on Poplar today. I so wish there was a resource that showed all the instars for all our #Cicadellidae species - they appear not to be well studied or documented, yet are so fascinating.

Nice to see more Large red damselflies today at Cosmeston &, on a single small Birch tree, several leafhopper nymphs which, looking at the British Bugs website, seem likely to be either Oncopsis flavicollis or subangulata but it's too early to tell for sure. #UKDragonflies #Cicadellidae

Gyponana is another one of those common hemipterans that demands a solid background in the group to ID it to species. So many leafy, green lookalikes out there. Be patient with your #entomology friends when you send a blurry photograph of lint.

Lots of lovely creatures on today's walk - Nomada and Andrena bees, shieldbugs, lots of different fly species, Brimstones, and much more - but the absolute highlight was this stunning little leafhopper, my first ever Mocydia crocea, an uncommon species in Wales. #Cicadellidae

This photo shows a small, elongated insect resting on a smooth white surface. Its body is a little less than one centimeter long, with a glossy brown coloration that transitions to a slightly lighter, amber‐brown hue near the front (head and thorax). A distinctive oval patch of pale cream or white is visible in the middle of its back (on the wings). The head is rounded from above and has a paler, somewhat translucent shield‐like section (the pronotum) just behind it. The legs are quite slender and light yellowish‐brown, bearing small spines. The abdomen beneath the wings appears bright yellow. The overall shape is streamlined and tapered toward the back. The user identifies it as a leafhopper in the family Cicadellidae (genus Eutettix).

At ~6 mm, these insects really test what I can do with a handheld camera. This #Cicadellidae is a Eutettix sp. that was not cooperating. At light traps, students in #entomology often rush to the large moths and beetles, but with the right magnification, #hemiptera can be just as rewarding. 🌿

This image shows a close-up of an insect, specifically a sharpshooter (family Cicadellidae, subfamily Cicadellinae). The insect displays vivid coloration, characterized by intricate patterns of orange, gray, and black. Its wings have a complex pattern of grayish-blue with black markings, complemented by vibrant orange patterns on its pronotum and the base of its wings. The head and thorax also have bright yellowish-orange coloration with distinct dark markings. The body patterning is detailed and intricate, typical of sharpshooter leafhoppers. The insect is photographed against a textured, pale fabric background, highlighting its distinct coloration and morphological details.
