A slow wander around #DevilsDyke shrouded in thick mist made more interesting and colourful by fungi and familiar native plants rebounding into flower this afternoon.

Sunny Sunday = many humans w bikes + dogs in the v few semi-natural open access lands that are short bus rides away from Brighton & Hove so I didn't stay long along #DykeApproach path nor on #DevilsDyke but while there I focussed on the quiet stars that are still flowering & feeding wildlife!
Sunny this morning on #DevilsDyke but not just from the sun ..

Despite many shoots where men w more money than sense or even a care 4 bird or nature, go big bang with their guns, there are still 1000s of pheasants slipping through the "shooting game" to wander freely doing untold damage in natural habitats as here on #DevilsDyke NT land of good biodiversity.

Exciting to catch a glimpse of a decidedly punk-looking female #Blackcap in an #Elder and a #Goldcrest busy catching insects & spiders in an golden oldie #Hawthorn on #DevilsDyke.
Lots of #Stonechat, #Bluetit & #Goldfinch about!
Great blustery afternoon!
5 different species of butterflies seen on this blustery October Sunday along the #Dykeapproach path, this stunning #SmallCopper shining especially bright.
Berry- & insect-laden Hawthorns & other trees around #DevilsDyke were loud w twittering small mixed flocks, feeding on the Autumn bounty.
Late afternoon walk up 2 #DevilsDyke along #DykeApproach path where the magnificent magenta crowns & their cousins where still providing food, their silver seed-heads shelter & perches to a host of insects, among them Grey-backed Snout Hoverfly (Rhingia rostrata).

A young Roe buck got out of the strong breeze today by lying down in some tall grass to wash himself and to get a good rest.

Since my recent attendance at the #Undercliff school of Stealth & Patience watching master #GreyHeron, I might have passed stealth walker basics today!
Spent 1 hr watching young Roe buck feeding in horse paddock just beyond fence @ #DevilsDyke when it flopped down in tall grass 2m away from me. ❤️

Wow they're all wonderful shots rob!
Just two recent ones from me on #fFlyday: 1) as I was walking along the #DykeApproach & happened to look up at Red Kite & 2) coming round a bend on another path, a Kestrel taking off from its favoured perch.

On south facing slope of #DevilsDyke an Adonis & a Common Blue male were competing 4 attention of female Adonis .. it was clear she was already mated & was having none of it.
Pretty sure I heard her mutter: "You can just sod off the pair of you!" 🙄
Poor image due 2 lots of fluttering
