A nighttime photo of a black curio box I filled with various things. From the top there is a dragonfly made of sheer plastic and gold acrylic pen, holding onto the top frame in the foreground. Deeper in the back there is a mushroom growing from the left side, painted with gold colours on black tea weathered paper. A moth is on the top of it, but is obscured by the dragonfly on this angle. Next to the mushroom there are two miniature picture frames with gold metal framing. The lowest roach is the biggest one and is facing the viewer from behind the dried up and curled sheet of bark, his antennae straight up. The text next to him says:"sup?". The second roach is seen from above, as he is munching on a leaf, his antennae curled up, he is also quite big and takes up most of the space. The text next to him days:"nom, nom, nom". A little bonus roach is sleeping under the leaves, this one is simplified and stylised in a comic style. The accompanying text says:"zzz". They grow big and always fascinated me when I was in ZOO as a child. Hissers don't fly, no apparent wings, just sit in the foliage munching on bark or leaves, helping create hummus and therefore soil. Their long antennae just read the air and males have hairs on theirs for female pheromones to sniff out and follow. On their back there are two distinct "horns" behind the head, just two little hills. Females are smooth and also very clever. They don't hurt anybody, but can be very attached to your skin when handled with bare hands. Don't hurt them, just wait or let them crawl over to some bark or leaf. They are scared or upset and take their time to cooperate. Their hissing is just puffing the air to deter a rival or scare someone off.

Adult male of Madagascar hissing cockroach just chills on a piece of bark in his habitat, fake plants in the background. Side and slightly top angled view.

Moulting is how roaches grow, before their exoskeleton hardens in the air, they are of light cream colour with black eyes. This shows one between a small planting pot and enclosure wall, facing the camera, removing the old exoskeleton like a suit.

Fully dried and furnished tin can with Laudanum label. I think that this fake black mold made of charcoal dust looks quite authentic, the white build up on the sides is made of glue and baking soda, paper weathered with black tea and coffee, paper roaches are nice and shiny.

Green beer bottle I found in the woods was used for another experiment. Roaches are green / blue, build up even thicker, I also added a few black drops and unhealthy green / blue stains, black and gold writings on the label say Hemaboloids, arseniated with strychnine and some other nom noms. Halloween décor all year long. I gave all of these roach things to two ppl who wanted them.
