Fourteen Black Oystercatchers standing on a rock sloping down from left to right with a blurred out ocean behind them
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #JKLMNOP so that any bird that has any of these letters at the beginning of their first or second names qualifies. I offer this photo of 14 Black Oystercatchers enjoying a nice day in Kodiak, Alaska.
A male ringneck pheasant surrounded by a spring landscape in Western Washington The birds curved beak is white and there’s a white stripe along its crown. It has red wattles on each side of its face with alert brown eyes peering from those wattles. This photo, taken on a cloudy day shows the bird’s neck long and very dark down to its white collar. From beneath its collar, its breast is a deep rust brown that runs all the way to its vent. There are lighter mottled feathers on its side and wings. On its back are feathers arrayed in layers of every earth tone imaginable. The pheasant’s tail is barred and is the length of this bird making it about 2 feet long in total. Its legs are black with very powerful claws.

#birdoftheday alt theme is #urban. This is a noisy miner we saw in Brisbane, on our trip to Australia in 2015. I just realized it fits the #jklmnop theme too.
Today’s theme for #BirdOfTheDay is #JKLMNOP , any bird that has any of these letters at the beginning of their first or second names; my submissions are a pileated woodpecker and dark-eyed junco.

Sony a6400, Sigma 150-600mm lens, f/7.1, 1/3200s, ISO-6400, 600mm. I was fortunate to live on the edge of the woods, so I set up the feeders and birdbath, removed the screen from a bedroom window, and sat there for hours, getting beautiful photos of the visiting birds without intruding on their peace.
#BirdOfTheDay theme today is #JKLMNOP. This is a male painted bunting, one of the most beautiful birds I've ever seen in person. I wanted to post this before the day ended. Painted buntings were regular visitors to my backyard when I lived in Florida. See ALT for more. #birds #birdphotography
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme based letters of the alphabet #JKLMNOP and this is a linnet, one of a pair captured at the w/e in Norfolk UK. So it is a #BirdsSeenIn2026

Colorful photograph of a Greater Necklaced Laughingthrush standing on a cluster of large orange flowers, surrounded by glossy green leaves. The bird is perched mostly in profile, with its head facing to the left and tilted downward. It is a warm cinnamon brown overall, with chestnut washes on its nape and flanks. Its dark bill is slender, its dark eye is surrounded by white, and its cheek is black, flecked with white. The species is named for the thick black band arching from its cheek and across its chest.
Here is a Greater Necklaced Laughingthrush 🪶 for today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme #JKLMNOP --- this was an introduced bird species seen in Kauai during my recent #Hawaii #birding trip.
After 2 treks up a steep muddy trail, we got great looks at a family group of 5.

I reviewed my recent bird pics and found only one bird that qualifies for the #jklmnop prompt — an elegant Little Blue #Heron lurking in the shadows of my favorite local pond
It’s not much of a “birder capture”, but does reflect the habitat and the bird’s gorgeous color

A side profile picture of a male and female Mallard duck stood together on the stone embankment of a lake. The male Mallard is stood upright facing right and the female Mallard is facing the male and stood leaning forward eating oats off the stone surface. There is a tarmac path in the foreground and the calm lake water in the background, which has a kind of silvery, mercury effect on thd surface.
For the main #BirdOfTheDay theme #JKLMNOP I will go for a Mallard couple taking a break and having a snack. #MallardMonday #birds #nature #ducks #photography #ECK #ukbirding
