Prior to the #MexicanRevolution, 87% of rural land was owned by just 2000 families. On #ThisDayInHistory in 1919, the #Carranza régime had #EmilianoZapata murdered. #Zapata's principled fight for #TierraYLibertad remains inspiring and relevant in a world of brutal #oligarchy.

A vintage black and white photograph, from the early 20th century, captures a portrait of an elderly Mexican revolutionary woman, standing outdoors. Crisscrossing over her chest are two fully loaded leather bandoliers. She holds a lever-action rifle diagonally across her body with both hands, its buttstock resting at her hip. Her head is covered with a dark scarf or rebozo. Her expression is solemn and resolute, and her hands, with prominent veins and wear, are clearly visible holding the weapon. The ground beneath her is dry and uneven. The background is a dense, somewhat indistinct wall of leafy bushes or ivy, with some large, blocky white stones resting on the ground near her feet on the right. The photographic style is historical and unpolished, with visible grain.

#History remembers generals; the Sierra Tarahumara remembers these women. They were the intelligence & the defense, navigating a war that rarely gave them a name. This #Photography captures the raw, unnamed strength that sustained the North while the books built myths.

#RicardoFloresMagón died on #ThisDayInHistory in 1922. A key figure in the #MexicanRevolution, his newspaper #Regeneración coined #Zapata's #TierraYLibertad. His collaborations with #IWW and his editorial positions led USA to make him a #PoliticalPrisoner at #Leavenworth in 1918.

It's Revolution Day in Mexico where they reflect on the sacrifices made in the revolution that toppled Profirio Diaz and brought us adelitas, Emiliano Zapata, Pancho Villa, and "La cucaracha."

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1879, a key figure in the #MexicanRevolution, #EmilianoZapata, was born. His argument for radical redistribution of land was central to his appeal and to the success of the 20th century's first great social revolution. He was killed to neuter the movement.

All this week I’ve been doing lots of #research, now it’s time to start mixing all this into the timeline I started with my #genealogicaltree. I thought it would be easier to choose what to add.
When it’s finally done I will start #drafting my #novel about the #MexicanRevolution. 🤞🍀
