Great googly moogly, the eyes on a Curve-billed Thrasher, especially when you get them both in frame, are something to behold...this birb has run, literally, run across my back yard (yes, it's all rocks) to stop at the edge of the patio, raise its bill high and look at me inquisitively like "where's the mealworms, bub?" Zen.

It just hits different...

An odd looking Curve-billed Thrasher ( Toxostoma curvirostre) perched up in a Joshua Tree, has a Kirk Douglas-thing going on with the 'cleft' in the breast feathers.

That's a Mojave County Scrub-jay (Aphelocoma woodhouseii) up on a wire in profile.

And as the sun set last night I met a Mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos) singing a tune up on the wire as well.

I wait for dusk to go birding in August...call it self-preservation. So this is a portrait at dusk of my pal, the Curve-billed Thrasher, a medium-sized bird with short wings, grayish brown overall with a whitish throat, spotted belly, and pale undertail coverts. Long-tailed with a loooong, curved bill. Eyes are golden-orange and add to the intense dinosaur vibe, imo... you wouldn't want to meet a 6 foot one, I bet.
