What is the #ngVLA?
The Next Generation Very Large Array (ngVLA) is a proposed, much more capable radio telescope array inspired by the NSF NRAO's #VeryLargeArray. The project proposal calls for 263 dishes across North America (most in the US Southwest).

Hard to believe it's already been 2 years since the ngVLA prototype antenna was first unveiled at mtex in Germany!
Since then, the panels have been installed, the dish lifted onto its pedestal, and the antenna was officially handed over to the NRAO.

With a proposed 263 telescopes spanning nearly 9,000 km (214 of the dishes being concentrated in the U.S. Southwest), the Next Generation Very Large Array is expected to have about 10x the sensitivity and 10x the spatial resolution of the current Very Large Array or ALMA!
