This is a large radio telescope, painted entirely white; the upper half is its large dish antenna, pointed directly upwards; the lower half is the support tower, positioning structure, and access stairs. The telescope here sits in the New Mexican desert, flat and dry with a low horizon. The sky is blue with a few small clouds near the horizon. This very large #Round thing is one of the 28, 25-meter (diameter) radio telescopes that make up the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array ("VLA"), about 50 miles west of Socorro, New Mexico [USA]. Two people in the foreground give an idea of scale.

I didn’t contemplate having a full moon and the effect it would have on my shot. Once I was there I realized I didn’t have the right lens nor lighting, so I adapted and waited and waited until I got the moon right where I needed it now to be at. #vla #photopills #newmexico

Early UV data showed almost no chemical fingerprints, but #VLA and #ALMA revealed a shock wave passing through a zone of very dense gas ➡️ the material around AT2024wpp is still there in large quantities, but so highly ionized that it stops leaving visible chemical fingerprints in UV/optical.
