story as well. But at the same time, the bullshit parts really are irksome.

Good book, bad book, it's... a book lol. That makes 14 books for this year and now I have to figure out what to read next!

Rebel of the Regency by Ann Foster: The Scandalous Saga of Caroline of Brunswick, Britain’s Queen Without a Crown

Rebel of the Regency by Ann Foster: The Scandalous Saga of Caroline of Brunswick, Britain’s Queen Without a Crown

I always thought Caroline of Brunswick should get a biopic. Now I’m 100% certain it’s a full-on crime if she doesn’t get a movie. This book is fun, it’s got intrigue and drama, Italian villas, and stars a baddie. Fantastic. Someone adapt this right the heck now.

Celebration It’s Easter Sunday as I type this, but the celebration is about the performance of my essays. Whilst the metric to consider is the number of citations, I need to be satisfied with the number …

I've been putting off posting about my 5,000+ essay downloads in deference to more 'important' pieces, but since my weekend was occupied plotting a new story idea, I have space for a short celebration. 🥳

Sports are a universal language, one of the last "third spaces" that we have in an increasingly digital world.

Do you know someone who follows sports like Xiang? #football #soccer #documentary #film #nonfiction

I gravitated toward nonfiction because there's an extra gut punch when you know the story is true. I'm really into emotional masochism. #nonfiction #booksky

Fiction and nonfiction readers tend to clash with each other and both sides are at fault. We're each going to defend our choice in books to the death.

Shout out to the person who claims nonfiction readers don't develop a deep sense of empathy from what we read.

Josh used to get in trouble for parking his ambulance in the ER bay at the hospital and staying there throughout the day.
Ambulances are supposed to leave the hospital after dropping a patient off and go out to their post location to wait for a nearby call, but Josh always stayed at the ER until the supervisor chased him out.
One day, she got a label maker and half-serious, half-joking, stuck a note to the sign that hung at ambulance driver's eye-level for Josh to see every time he pulled his ambulance into the bay and parked it.

DO NOT IDLE ENGINES IN BAY AREA
JOSH ER BAY STAY OUT!!

The sign stayed this way for years, and then the pandemic hit, and then Josh died, not of disease, but around the disease, and then Josh didn't park his ambulance in the ER bay all day.
They started closing the hospital a couple years later and the doctors left, and the nurses, and the ambulances, the building standing empty except for the ghosts.
I was walking by the street where the building still stands (something about the historical significance of the building holding up some developer or another from buying the lot and bulldozing it all), and on a sudden whim I made a sharp turn down the block to the ER bay.
The windows of the hospital are dark. The sirens are silent. There is no ambulance parked in the ER bay.
It wasn't difficult at all to pry the sign away from the wall. As easy as it was to put up, it was that easy to take down.
And, I thought, what would someone else want with a cruddy sign with some label stuck to it?

a bright red emergency room ambulance entrance sign with big block letters which read "DO NOT IDLE ENGINES IN BAY AREA". A small strip of adhesive label is stuck in the bottom corner and reads, much, much smaller: "JOSH ER BAY STAY OUT!!". The sign now sits on a carpeted floor.

Some #nonfiction today. A little essay on why it says "Josh ER bay stay out!!" on this sign, and why this sign isn't in the ER bay anymore. #WriteSky #EMS #EmergencyMedicine
