Looking back to Ana Pink Bay off the stern of the Skorpios lll, the golden orb floats above the chiselled Patagonia mountains, reflecting on the choppy water, and casting a warm, yellow glow on parts of the ship. It's been a chilly exercise, on deck for over an hour anticipating the moment, occasionally ducking into the bridge to warm up. The calm will end as we navigate through the Pulluche Channel and start crossing the notoriously rough Penas Gulf. Few show up for breakfast, fewer for lunch, I think only 20 showed for dinner ...the cruise director and many staff were down for the count. We had an intimate dining experience all day, but it was a little like house arrest as you couldn't even get a cocktail. While not the sailing wasn't easy-peasy, it was no Drake Channel!

The morning sun rises above the mist and fog over the Tuscan landscape, casting yellow hues skyward into ribbons of white cloud and blue sky. Houses in the village sit largely in the shadows with traces of golden light illuminating parts of the roofs and balconies. I think we're the only ones taking in this spectacular show, shutters are down, no lights, no sound: Silence is golden!

Image shows the dawn sky over the grand Union Canal the sky starts grey and orange at the top of the image then has a layer of blue followed by more orange and blue with the orange deepening as the sky meets the horizon. below a thin line of almost purple clouds there is a line of uneven scrub on the righthand bank of the canal and on the right four barges can be seen reflecting the dawn light of their sides and onto the water.
