I love all the inhabitants of our pond - newts, tadpoles (frogs & toads), pond skaters, dragonfly & damselfly larvae, whirligig beetles, snails - but my absolute favourites are the #caddisfly larvae who live inside mobile homes made of leaves, plant stems, and other pond debris! #wildlifeponds 🌿

So many finches coming in to bathe, on this very mild mid-January (14th) morning.
The Goldfinch is the finch that you are least likely to see bathing - I'm not sure of the reason as to why this is.
For every Goldie, I will see a 100 Greenfinches...

The pond unfrozen & the hardy bathers return.
That water is cold, believe me.....
The number of winter thrushes roosting at night in the Willow & Blackthorn scrub around the pond is now very large.
Not a sign of disease among the Greenfinches.
