The Coot and Calandra In mid-April 1996, Paul C left for Antigua and his brother’s wedding, and promptly two ticks broke for him on consecutive evenings: the bird...

Big Year 30yrs On. Few days late for these, but 2 huge birds on 17/18 Apr 1996: Am Coot and Calandra Lark. I wrote this up as one of the original Birding Tales. And yes, the title is a homage to the classic and v funny 'Tales from the Coot and Corncrake'. birdingtales.blogspot.com/2020/04/the-...

20 years since rubbish views of the only Ross's Gull I've seen, it was nice to finally get another one, and a bonus in Norfolk. Eventually showed well! #NorfolkBirding #rarebirdsUK @birdguides.bsky.social @rarebirder.bsky.social

Mid spring can be quiet what with orthosias going off, willows in flower and later species not out yet. It's the doldrums..

The view from our kitchen window. At least 4 Blackcaps arrived on Saturday to eat the ivy berries. A good food source for tired migrants. #UKBirding #Lowcarbonbirding #Northumberland

Just one example of what's happening all over our waterways. This one coming under good old Thames Water. The EA aren't fit for purpose, do much too little way too late. Takes the piss charging £37 for a rod license, from what I can see none of it gets ploughed back into our rivers & streams.

There is NOTHING grand about the Grand National.

I can't imagine why birders use it? Experienced birders I mean, not novices. The reports I see from it even drive beginners barmy.

Couldn’t believe my eyes when this stunning Sardinian Warbler appeared in front of us @hilbrebirdobs.bsky.social reward for all the efforts the team put in. A cracking Redstart was nice too. #ukbirding

Never a dull morning on Dungeness

Beautiful camper van stuck

Plus a Chough flying over Jacob/Jonathan and me at the New Lighthouse (from the reintroduction project in Dover)
A ‘First’ for Dungeness

From my pic you can see it is ringed and accordingly she is called ‘Betty’ 😳🤦

Oil price fallen by $20 a barrel overnight but we won't see any difference for some time.

Back 5 weeks to Day 1 of Trumps attack on Iran a BP garage here put its price up by 14p per litre within 12 hours and most days since. Now, up by 48p per litre in that time. ( diesel 1.45p to 1.93p pl.).
