Male Pallid Harrier in flight
Pallid Harrier added to the house list, thanks to @ninaohanlon.bsky.social Hot on the heels of Purple Heron last week #PWC2026 #CaithnessBirds
Big Year 30yrs On. Few days late for these, but 2 huge birds on 17/18 Apr 1996: Am Coot and Calandra Lark. I wrote this up as one of the original Birding Tales. And yes, the title is a homage to the classic and v funny 'Tales from the Coot and Corncrake'. birdingtales.blogspot.com/2020/04/the-...
20 years since rubbish views of the only Ross's Gull I've seen, it was nice to finally get another one, and a bonus in Norfolk. Eventually showed well! #NorfolkBirding #rarebirdsUK @birdguides.bsky.social @rarebirder.bsky.social

What's going on with @bsky.app this week? It is slow and sticks or doesn't load at all...
Mid spring can be quiet what with orthosias going off, willows in flower and later species not out yet. It's the doldrums..
One of these years I'll be up there at the end of April! We are at Affric from 11th May for a week this year...cheers,what a moth!
32 /9 last night Inc Dark Swordgrass and Streamer NFY. The DSG was the most battered a moth could be while still being identifiable. #teammoth #Northumberland
The nest of a TreeGuardCreeper 😄
Amy Reed used to be one of our latest arrivals, with Swifts and Wood Warblers and Spot Fly in May up here. This year they've already been here for a week!
You in Nethy Bridge Peter?

I think it is just wet. When I took that pic on Saturday the ivy was soaking..
The view from our kitchen window. At least 4 Blackcaps arrived on Saturday to eat the ivy berries. A good food source for tired migrants. #UKBirding #Lowcarbonbirding #Northumberland

who is fighting who?
Just one example of what's happening all over our waterways. This one coming under good old Thames Water. The EA aren't fit for purpose, do much too little way too late. Takes the piss charging £37 for a rod license, from what I can see none of it gets ploughed back into our rivers & streams.
I've not seen it for 30 years...
"You there boy, how many horses needed put down at Aintree this year?"...........
There is NOTHING grand about the Grand National.
I can't imagine why birders use it? Experienced birders I mean, not novices. The reports I see from it even drive beginners barmy.
92 Diamond backs in the trap with Powdered Quaker, Pine Beauty and Muslin NFY.
#Teammoth #Northumberland
Couldn’t believe my eyes when this stunning Sardinian Warbler appeared in front of us @hilbrebirdobs.bsky.social reward for all the efforts the team put in. A cracking Redstart was nice too. #ukbirding
Lots of Diamond backs arrived today. At least 25 in the trap so far... an early date for #Northumberland #Teammoth
Bluethroat is still at Swineham! Gave us a shock when it landed on the path in front of us #ukbirding @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social @harbourbirds.bsky.social @rarebirder.bsky.social
Camper Van stuck at Dungeness
Chough on scaffolding tower, Dungeness
Never a dull morning on Dungeness
Beautiful camper van stuck
Plus a Chough flying over Jacob/Jonathan and me at the New Lighthouse (from the reintroduction project in Dover)
A ‘First’ for Dungeness
From my pic you can see it is ringed and accordingly she is called ‘Betty’ 😳🤦

Oil price fallen by $20 a barrel overnight but we won't see any difference for some time.
Back 5 weeks to Day 1 of Trumps attack on Iran a BP garage here put its price up by 14p per litre within 12 hours and most days since. Now, up by 48p per litre in that time. ( diesel 1.45p to 1.93p pl.).
Can I ask why you only take head shots of birds in the hand please? It would be nice to see the whole bird...
It's a female.
