The incredible, snuggleable softness that is the forelegs, head, thorax and wings of a male Helena gum moth. The male's legs are covered in russet rings of fur, giving the impression of voluminous striped trousers as they grip the back of my hand. He appears to be hiding his face in their fluff, presenting the world with a view of his magnificent white monobrow and feathery antenna (the antenna shape indicate a male moth, feathery to detect female pheromones). The thorax is downy with russet hairs, fading to pale pink and light brown on the wings. The hindwings in the background each have a spectacular eyespot, bright orange, ringed with black and a white highlight.

A day late to #throwbackThursday so enjoy a little end of the week cuteness from this incredibly cuddly Helena gum moth, Austrocaligula helena.
