Photo showing part of a colony of Sandwich Terns (Thalasseus sandvicensis) at their nesting site on a small island with grass and low herbage. There are around two dozen birds in this image, most out-of-focus in the background, with one in flight and the others at rest on the ground. The Terns are Gull-like, with bodies which are mostly white, with grey on the upper parts of their wings, black caps (which are shaggy at the back), and long, black beaks which have yellow, pointed tips. The legs and feet, visible on the flying bird, are small, and black in colour.

A male European Stonechat (Saxicola rubicola), perched on top of a spikey Gorse bush. His body, Robin-like in size and shape, is facing us and slightly to our right while his head is turned to the left of the picture. His head, including his beak (which is open) and eye, is black; his throat is also black but on either side of his neck he has a white 'collar'. What we can see of his shoulders, one wing and his tail are also dark in colour, but his chest is a bright reddish-orange colour and his belly a pale, slightly orangey-white. His legs and feet are black. The background is blue in colour, thanks to the sea rather than the sky.

A calm sea with clear, shallow water that depens within a few meters of the water's edge. To the left of the scene is an island with steep sides and scrub on its almost flat top. Halfway along the island is a cave which gives the bay its name.
I went with my wife when she had a swim at Porth yr Ogof, Wylfa Head #Anglesey this morning. It was idyllic despite her yelps as she entered the water!
In just a few weeks, the sliver of rocks on the horizon will be home to the largest Arctic Tern colony in the UK, and hopefully Roseate Terns once again, looked after by dedicated wardens who spend the summer living in the lighthouse. #Anglesey
