Enmaar is governed by the local merchants guild, with representatives from the most influential families/businesses. The top 3 represented are horse, tea and wine trade. Serara's best friend's mother Topaz is the current head of the wine traders.

2: The city of Atmoriel in the Empire of Atmoriel in Karnassia (co-created with @jmaxwell-author.bsky.social) is the seat of government and thus a place where the Emperor rules with the counsel of his group of six advisors (the Hexart). Atmoriel is an authoritarian hellhole...
#AprilWorldbuilders 2: Sordan's local government
Dorilian rules the Hierarchate, but the City of Sordan has its own government: the Sordan Halia.
The Halia is a representative legislature, chosen by the City's residents. Any person of legal age (16) may serve.

Kaledon is made up of four different kingdoms. Each kingdom is ruled by a royal sovereign assisted by advisors, mediators, and magistrates.

You're making me realize I need to formally map out the city-state boundaries. 😂
So, with Reinaya's size, it's going to be broken up smaller wards (many more than I planned to break up Yinzburgh tbh) to spread the burden of civil management.

Government of Elen-Ford.
Since the town is split, they have separate governments.
The Human side is run by an Overseer appointed by the council of Clans. His focus is maintaining trade and keeping the border secure.

Fueria is ruled by Council of three Myr, a godlike species, who have absolute power. They are superior to the Conquistadors (who, for example, conquer territories). The fourth, independent body is the Inquisition, which keeps order in lower circles and is also managed by a Myr.

#AprilWorldbuilders Government within Eden Hollow is established through their church. They appoint a leader based on popularity and/or political sway.
Reverend Pryce has been their acting leader for decades, and he employed guards to “keep the peace.” 1/2
Havin fun here so #AprilWorldbuilders, in Qur'Anther as it is the capital of the Wooralian Empire the local government is the actual full on government, the city is under the direct care of Monarch Isaile and has been for around 1000 years. 1/5

Vedia is a province of the iron-fisted empire of Regnum Regis. Now, while our town of Vanasyu isn't too large, it is naturally fortified, and thus home to an imperial legate and an assortment of foreign and native aristocrates who squabble on every single matter imaginable.

Hello #AprilWorldbuilders! Back to Guddenfall!
The city is the capital of Kernheim, which is ruled by a king. Guddenfall also falls under the direct rule of the monarch. Most of the day-to-day work is being offloaded to a chancellor and advisors of course. The church has a lot to say, too!

Very late, but I think I'm going to focus on the West Library specifically this month, both because of houses a very special "creature" and because the first short story featuring the Library is getting published this month :D

As previously stated, theocratic. Security doesn't interfere in the details of daily activities, and the Translator (spiritual leader) helps the villagers enough that they follow rules of their own will, but the borders are tightly guarded compared to other tribes'.

In Marble Grove, the city I wrote about last time, the governance is basically a joke. Fletcher V does virtually whatever he wants to whomever, bedding new women every night, signing off on contracts and manifests of illegal goods he barely glances at.

#AprilWorldbuilders Q1:
My "Brothers" WIP has the heaviest world-building I've ever done. These prompts have been very helpful ❤️
The main city is Viresse (Formerly Virance, before the second revolution), so I'm going to be confusing readers by switching names based on the speaker's politics 😁

They are roughly as pleasant and helpful as a ruling class determined strictly by wealth would be.
There is a mayor, who handles maintenance and policing, mostly in the rich quarter. They are selected by the Queen from those in the city with the highest net worth.🧵

Karekhan "The Dead City" used to have an elected mayor & city council before Afredal's occupation. Its only non-elected officials were the Rotari Ghosts—members of the sacred family whose duty it was to audit the electeds in alignment with the people's will.

There's a council. But also this place is insane in terms of size, there are sort of councils under them controlling smaller areas like a group of suburbs. Then there are administrative officers with smaller areas still, dealing with daily tasks. There's of course the

Each megacity is run by a mayor. The mayor of Sundusk isn't malicious, but they could stand to do more about...yknow...the glitch-y shadow demons and the endless rain instead of just slapping a curfew on the city and calling it a day.
The red roses are for Lancashire, the town having formerly been in that county, and the black wolf refers to name of the town “ Wulf-heres-tun ”.The other emblems are for local industries; the agricultural market is symbolised by the gold sheaf, the flames are for the formerly important iron-smelting, the leather collar represents the tanning industry, the chain hanging from it is for the engineering industry, and supports a gold shield carrying a red lightning flash for the electrical industry and the Egyptian Ankh or Cross of Life, in green, for the antibiotic manufacturing activities.

Broad Bend is in Davenz, which is a monarchy, but the king has had the notion to start a parliament. The nobles who collect rent from the people of Broad Bend are not happy. The guildmasters, who actually functionally control the commerce through town, are delighted.

I'm... actually not sure.
I think the citadel and paladin order are most in charge of the area. Not military rule or anything, but likely you have a general mayor and/or paladin commander that is in charge of the town, with their staff to help them.
I don't really know more.

Where better to start than Jevine? Nestled in the delta of the Hafl River, trade has made it the richest city in southern Anura. Jevine is built on islands and reclaimed land, so it’s a mess of canals, bridges, and levees. Think New Orleans meets Venice meets Amsterdam.
#AprilWorldbuilders Gotta go with Grand Harbor. At 2.5 million people, it's the greatest and most diverse city beneath the arch. It's actually a city-state with several municipalities.
It is the headquarters of the Grand Coalition, a multinational alliance opposed to the Black Banner.

The main one in Fateweavers is Varisca, the academy/city built in a mountain range for future members of the eight clans of Old Vaalbara.
And I mean it is ‘built’ into the mountains. With whole range being hollowed out into a multilayer ‘school/college town’.
Let's call it Dawnbay City, or DC for short. It's the capital of the United Republic and it could pass for any anonymous city, at first glance.
Temples to 8 of the New Gods (both above and below) dominate one of the nicer districts. And the worst area is handily the gobsquats.

An important location in my WIP is a sort of imaginary place in Arizona not far from Apache Junction where my MC's magical mentor lives in a cave. Most of the nights my MC spends there is close by in a hollow beside a big boulder, in the company of a coyote.
