#BananaSlugs are commonly found in redwood and Douglas fir forests along the US West Coast from Santa Cruz, CA all the way up to Alaska. A banana slug can grow up to 30 cm long, although most of them appear to be about 12 cm.
#Ariolimax #BananaSlug
A large, brownish-yellow slug is curled into a circle, with its face right next to the tip of its tail and aimed towards the camera. Its mouth is flexing as it appears to chew away at something stuck to its tail.
The Pacific Banana Slug, Ariolimax columbianus, is our largest native slug, and a relatively common sight in the forests of southwestern BC.

This morning students spotted a #bananaslug, possibly #Ariolimax #californicus. Did you know banana slugs have been part of @Stanford of #naturalhistory & biology education programs since the 1990s? They were used by @HopkinsMarine biologist named #HaroldHeath.
