The solitary sentinel looks over the marsh. I love to alternating bands of color as the different marsh grasses awaken with spring’s arrival.

I wish this photo were a little crisper, but a closer look gives you a sense for some of the details around the bird’s neck and rear area of the folded near-side wing. The light was not quite right to make the bird’s glorious colors pop, but you can just make out the wonderful magenta (is that the right color name) around the contracted neck. I don’t know what to call the bird’s green tone, but is breathtaking in the right light. File all my qualifications under, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”
