The river Derwent flows through Chatsworth Park and that is what we see here. It enters the frame on the right and leaves on the left. It was an extremely misty day and all we can see are three old timer trees placed on the second bottom right third and another group of trees over on the extreme left right next to the river quite shrouded in the mist. All the trees reflect in the water. The old timer trees are no longer there. I think they became a danger to the public so had to be felled. So sad as they were lovely specimens.

A landscape oriented image taken at a low angle on the bank of the river Derwent in Chatsworth Park on an icy cold snowy morning. So cold part of the river is frozen. Across the river is Chatsworth House and it’s also reflected in the river. On my side of the river are reeds and grass all sprinkled with snow and a little way beyond a couple are enjoying a stroll along the river.

A landscape oriented image taken early, before sunrise, on a snowy morning. It’s a photo of trees and the path that wends its way through them. The path comes in at the bottom right corner and goes diagonally through the image passing between three trees that are prominent in the scene, there are more trees behind them. Grass pokes out from underneath the snow. The whole scene has a blue tint from the snow and the time of day.

A landscape oriented image taken this morning on my iPhone, no doubt more from my big camera will follow at some point. The conditions were lovely, with a fresh layer of snow, my first this winter, covering everything. The river Wye flows into the frame in the bottom right corner, the bank covered with frosted reeds runs into the image on the left. Where the river meets the bank there is a layer of ice, a nice touch as it adds another dimension. Across the river on the mid of the top third we see Chatsworth House looking splendid in the winter sun and reflecting into the river. Across the frame from left to right above it are a line of trees and they are topped with blue sky.

Frozen River

Snow, we had snow! I was, of course, out with my big camera but I haven’t uploaded my images yet so here’s one from my phone.

A landscape oriented image of a gorgeous summer sunrise is my selected for this Christmas Day. With the camera right down at the water level we a looking across the river Wye on the other side and reflected in the river is a fiery sunrise of yellow and orange. Across the centre of the image is the riverbank on the other side and tracking it is a line of mist. The see trees that get denser as they go away from us and climb a gentle hillside. Along to the left and almost incidental we see Chatsworth House appearing through the mist that sits amongst the trees.

Happy Christmas, especially those finding themselves on their own this year 🎅🏻

This is one from the archive. It was taken on a very cold, but exceedingly beautiful morning just before the sun came up. Coming in on the bottom left and then running away into the image is a river and the river is glowing red and orange as it reflects the colours in the sky. Across the rest of the bottom of the image is grass made white with a thick layer of frost. In the near distance are trees and an old ruined mill, above everything is a sky full of colour. Orange, red, yellow and blue.

I can still see it now in my mind’s eye it was such a spectacle.

Lazy Sunday

Sunday morning was wonderfully misty. The trees are gently turning to their autumn hues and this sheep was quite happy to rest beneath them.
