A bit of a mooch around a local park earlier produced some lovely little ladybirds: two 10-spots (Adalia decempunctata), a 14-spot (Propylea quattuordecimpunctata) and a Kidney-spot (Chilocorus renipustulatus). #coccinellidae

And finally, from yesterday’s jolly to Connah’s Quay, Scymnus haemorrhoidalis (Red-rumped LB), Scymnus interruptus (Red-flanked LB), and I was thrilled to find the adorable Clitostethus arcuatus (Horseshoe LB) - not many records in Wales #MicroLadybird #Coccinellidae #Wales

Photo shows a large red beetle on a green wide leaf. On the back this beetle has 15 visible black spots of varying sizes. There is a clear divide between the main body and the bode with the head, eyes and main antennas. The main body has a visible shine where the lights of the sun is reflected. On both sides of the main leaf there are other long leaves. In the background the floor of the veranda is visible. Cambodia is as safe, comfortable and kind as ever. Angkor and Siem Reap warmly welcomes visitors.

A ladybird beetle for big luck

Enjoying morning coffee in Siem Reap, this next to me was a forecast of another lucky day.

There are 15 registered variants of lucky Ladybird beetles in Cambodia. Probably there are many more.

Some of my fun finds this past year. I started looking for the tiny native lady beetles of South Dakota. And I found some!

This year’s challenge is to get better at macro photographing fast-moving tiny beetles.

Arawana scapularis, a lady beetle species native to the SW US. Very few records exist for this species which shocked me since I found dozens on sycamore trees in the heart of Santa Fe, NM. Just happened to catch them as I walked by. It's why I always have my camera on me! #coccinellidae #inverts

Draufsicht auf einen dunkelbraunen bis schwarzbraunen Marienkäfer (Aphidecta obliterata) auf rauer Steinoberfläche. Die Farbmorphe zeigt deutliche rotbraune bis orangefarbene Flecken auf den Flügeldecken, einen glänzenden Panzer und die typische ovale Körperform der Art.

Die dunkle Farbmorphe weist markante orangebraune Flecken auf den Flügeldecken auf, die im Kontrast zur fast schwarzen Grundfärbung stehen. Marienkäferarten kommen oft in verschiedenen Farbmorphen vor. Die dunkle Form des Nadelbaum-Marienkäfers (Aphidecta obliterata) kannte ich noch nicht. Bild 4 zeigt die "Normalfärbung".

Der Sechzehnfleckige Marienkäfer (Halyzia sedecimguttata) soll die Härte des Winters voraussagen können. Je nach Überwinterungsplatz wird der Winter hart oder weniger hart.
