Hello, #knitsky friends! Here’s my contribution to this week’s #showmeyourknits prompt, #cowls. I’ve only ever made one. I was just starting to knit again after many years so it isn’t very good. I can’t remember the pattern; the yarn is Feels Like Butta in pink. 🧶 #yarn #fiberart
The right sides of my two two-color brioche Owl Cowls, designed by Joan Hughes. I made both with the same two colors, an almost-white pale blue and a greyish navy blue, but the cowl on the top has the dark yarn as the main color and the one on the bottom has the light yarn as the main color. Increases and decreases bend the brioche stripes around to form an abstract design that looks sort of like a stack of owl faces. These were my first knits with brioche stitch that was more complicated than vertical stripes. I gave one of these cowls to Mom because the colors are similar to her college colors, and gave the other to a friend who loves owls.
The same two Owl Cowls as in the previous image, except that the top one is flipped inside out to show the “wrong” side. Now, the more prominent color showing on both cowls is the blueish white, and you can see the subtle difference between the right and wrong sides of shaped two-color brioche. For instance, for some curves of light stitches that appear connected on the right side of the bottom cowl, the complementary curves on the wrong side of the top cowl are separated by a sliver of the dark blue yarn.
This stash cowl is a heavily modified version of Joan Hughes’s Brioche Criss-Cross Cowl. The main color is part of a pink fade set of mini skeins, going from a rich, dark pink at the bottom to a pastel pink at the top. The contrast color switches from the bluish white of the Owl Cowls to the greyish navy blue of the Owl Cowls, with the darker pinks over the lighter blue and the lighter pinks over the darker blue. The shaping of the brioche stitches produces a braided effect running down the cowl, which is knitted in the round.
The wrong side of the stash criss-cross brioche cowl. Now the two blue yarns are on top. Because of the abrupt shift from dark to light in the middle of the cowl, it looks much weirder from this side.

The display form is showing a turquoise blue cowl. The bottom edge of the cowl has garter stitch and pivot details that moves into stockinette with a dropped st detail. Welting and a simple textured body make up the bulk of the cowl. It is finished with eyelets and I-cord.

I've only made one cowl--an infinity scarf for SIL. To be honest, I can't remember if I knit or crocheted it!
A thick, warm cowl, double knit so that there are two versions. This is the "light side" where the background is lighter than the patterns. The colours are burgundy tones. The edges are created with openwork stitches.
Welcome to the dark side of the cowl. Beautiful in a different way.
