A grey day. Ollie (a bearded white man in a purple jacket and dark shorts) examine this tall and quite impressive standing stone. It looks very rectangular from this angle but is pointy if you look at it from where he's standing. Hills in the background, long grass in the field. The stone is around 3m tall and was originally one of a pair. It's covered in lichen.

Ollie, a middle-aged, bearded white man in a straw hat, floral shirt and sunglasses, sitting on the capstone of a mossy dolmen in the woods. The angle makes him look quite small, but to be fair the stone is large and the orthostats are tall, so the capstone is a long way off the ground and his little legs are dangling. This is a passage grave, in a wooded clearing. The trees crowd around it but it's quite light, a sunny afternoon.

Ollie stands with his back to the camera, between two stones, arms raised. The stones are roughly rectangular and slightly taller than he is. The lean, but you can't see that from this angle. The gap between them aligns with a gap in the hills beyond. They are set in rough moorland with patches of reeds, and it's a cloudy moment on a sunny autumn day.

The sky is grey, the grass is green, Ollie is wearing his waterproof jacket. The stone is behind him, leaning backwards, about ten feet tall and covered in lichen. The ogham script is on the edge facing the camera but it's tricky to see.

"Macalister's revised reading (1945, 226-7) of this is:
. . . ]ERRLONNA MAQI R[U]T[E]N[I]

The very weathered and uneven surface of the stone detracts from the general clarity of the inscription. The first stroke of the L is unclear, as is the final stroke of the second N. The next character appears to be M rather than A. Only two notches of the first I are discernible, and the first stroke of the third R is incomplete. The first stroke of the T and the final E and I are doubtful.

The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 912."
