Goodnight Bluesky from my small patch in South-east England. Tomorrow is another day and that orange sun will hopefully be back in the morning. Sleep tight.

The setting sun lights the clouds a shade of peachy orange behind a tall Yew tree in a neighbouring garden. A wooden bird nesting box is fixed to the side of the tree’s trunk to the lower left. Camera: iPhone 15 Pro.

Goodnight Bluesky. That was another perfect imperfect day for me. Brilliant sunshine. Serial killer headache. Let’s hope for a perfectly perfect sunrise tomorrow after this beautiful #Sunset behind the Maple tree in my little garden.

Front garden when we moved here 2007. It took years to get to this. After clearing, and discovering it went right down!, the wildlife pond was first thing we completed.
Made loads of errors and weather has changed to stronger winds. #gardeningUK #EnglishGardens #Wildlifegardens
Very excited as my 3 bare root shrub rose bushes arrived today. I prepared the ground a while ago. Heavily scented and attractive to bees. Scepter'd Isle by David Austin.
Totally renovating our garden. This is how they should look in a few years.

Moonlight makes the ordinary seem extraordinarily eerie. The shadow of a Fig tree is projected on to a wooden fence, its twisted branches becoming a sinister network of threatening tentacles. Above the fence other trees loom in neighbouring gardens unaware of the shadowy drama being played out below. Camera: iPhone 15 Pro

Bright white Snowdrop flowers shining in the sunlight. In the main portrait on the left a single flower hangs from a thin green stalk in front of brown fallen autumn leaves. The other frames:Top right and centre, feature several more of the flowers set against the green leaves of their plant. The final picture, bottom right, is a slatted wooden bench, casting a shadow across the grass verge where more Snowdrops are growing in front of trees, just visible at the top of the frame. A Bee works away on the pollen-laden flower of a Hypericum bush surrounded by the plants glossy green leaves and some red berries.
Happy new year from a very frosty Surrey. I decided to go back to those sunny summer days today to cheer me up as I imagine the heat of June or July and the scent of the garden as bees buzz about their business.

I took a loop shot of Roberto today, launching himself from a blue terracotta plant pot but it won’t transfer to Bluesky, so here’s the still version.
On a beautifully sunny May day, visitors walk down a dusty path next to banks of English bluebells, growing among trees yet to get their leaf cover. One tree on the left has already started to get its light green Spring foliage. Some people stop to take photographs while others chat. The large pine tree in the foreground provides dappled shade. Its long branches reach out across the paths.
The annual Spring pilgrimage to one of the local bluebell woods at Emmetts Gardens in Kent run by @nationaltrust.org.uk an English charity. There is also a lovely big tree for #NationalTreeWeek

The almost unreal purple-red narrow leaves of a Virginia Creeper rest on top of an unpainted wooden garden fence. A few green pyramid-shaped Ivy leaves poke through the fence behind it. Overhead, the sky is blue with a hint of wispy white cloud to form the perfect backdrop.
When the sun is out, the garden glows with reds and golds in early October and it makes choosing a #Stunday photo harder. This is my favourite today but by tomorrow, who knows. I love the way #Autumn shifts its colours.

The long serrated leaves of a Acer Palmatum (Japanese Maple) have turned a shade of rusty purple and the morning dew glistens on its leaves in the early sunlight. Behind the tree, which is planted in a large pot, and over the garden fence you can glimpse a large tree in a neighbouring house in our row of terrace homes. To the right of the Acer a blurred out green shrub peeks into frame. The sky is clear blue, contrasting perfectly with the Acer.

These autumn mornings are so invigorating … even on a Monday. Our Acer Palmatum (Japanese Maple) has turned a delicious shade of rusty purple and the morning dew glistens on its leaves. Have a great day.
From top left, clockwise: crimson petals of a Cosmos with yellow centre, grown from seed, in a border right next to our driveway and the pavement with roadway in the background; deep purple Salvia Rock and Bloom in front of pink Sedum in green border; spiky red Persicaria flowers, aka Kiss-me-over-the-garden-gate, stand erect in the sunshine above their green-leaved plants; two luscious pink candy-coloured Hollyhocks growing near the pavement in a neighbour’s driveway; a small Astrantia peeks out from beside an old terracotta flower pot where it has seeded itself in a crack on the patio; tiny purple Verbena bonariensis flowers cluster atop their stalks against a grey wood fence past a retaining wire in the afternoon sun.
Summer seems to be stretching into autumn this year, so the
#SixOnSaturday selection from our garden plus a guest Hollyhock from a neighbour’s front drive is still very colourful. *info in alt text

These little Aster flowers are a beautiful shade of blue/cyan and shine in the morning sun by our front door. The bee, however, is not interested in colour, just pollen. One for @soph0517.bsky.social
Large yellow flowers with spiky, crown-like leaves above glow in the sunshine next to a gravel path on a sunny afternoon. The sky is partly cloudy with some blue. Oenothera glazioviana is a species of flowering plant in the evening primrose family known by the common names large-flowered evening-primrose. It originated in Brazil but is now found all over the world. I took this photo on a visit this week to Standen House and garden in Sussex, an Arts & Crafts movement inspired home now run by the National Trust charity.

Evening Primrose flowers. Despite the name, they glow by day.
A delicate pink rose, its petals covered in raindrops, sits almost sheltering another flower to its right that looks red in its bud form. The rose plant’s glossy green leaves are also covered in raindrops.
One more for this very wet #RoseWednesday as our Scarborough Fair from David Austin is having a second flush. A distinct touch of Raindrops on roses but no sign of whiskered kittens in our little Surrey garden. #Roses #Flowers #EnglishGardens #BloomScrolling

Soaking up the sun before autumn. A pale yellow flower in the gardens of Chartwell National Trust near Westerham, Kent, once the home of Sir Winston Churchill.
From top left: pink Lichnis; unidentified peachy pink rose against blue sky; bright pink Cosmos; light purple Calicarpa berries; bright red Cotoneaster berries on green bush against blue sky. Finally a crabapple tree near the village church laden with orange-coloured fruits and soft green leaves.
Today’s #SixOnSaturday comes after a week when it finally rained and, oh, how it rained. Biblically. Most things appreciated the abundant rainwater but some of the wild garden flowers, already wilting, got a battering. Still some sun, though. Idents in alt text.

A bright deep pink Cosmos flower with yellow central pollen-filled stamens opens its face to the sun. Another Cosmos, this time white can be seen to the left and a wooden grey garden fence is in the background.
A light purple coloured Angelica flower head rises above the purple stalks of the plant in a green border.

A Butterfly bush in a neighbour’s garden continues to bloom as she deadheads each day; one of our Cosmos flowers; an Angelica by our path and the Salvia Rock and Bloom that has flowered all summer.
From top left in clockwise fashion: a late-flowering purple Plume Thistle struggles forth from its green prickly “cup”; a light purple Hibiscus with its five petals open to the morning sun; a deep purple Salvia against a background of thin green leaves and fading Kniphofia blooms; purple berries of a Callicarpa or American Beauty Berry plant against a light brown wooden fence with blue sky; a mix of pink and red Cosmos grown from seed and which continue to thrive as I deadhead each day. Again the background is the fence and blue sky. Finally, the last few white Astrantia flowers in a green leafy border.

From top left, clockwise: a peach-coloured Hollyhock; bright crimson Everlasting pea blossom; purple Verbena bonariensis, glimpsed through railings; white Everlasting pea; a stunning yellow and red Tigridia pavonia, which has many common names but my favourite is Jockey’s Cap Lily and finally pink and red Poppies, growing in weeds near a field gate.
Today’s #SixOnSaturday is shamelessly brought to you from our morning stroll to the village millpond past some neighbour’s gardens. Enjoy. We did. Info in alt text.

And to keep one grounded

Our Sunflowers, grown from a free packet of seeds, are looking a bit raggedy, maybe as a result of the constant attentions of the bees. However, as this was the object of planting them, we can’t complain.
