Front garden when we moved here 2007. It took years to get to this. After clearing, and discovering it went right down!, the wildlife pond was first thing we completed.
Made loads of errors and weather has changed to stronger winds. #gardeningUK #EnglishGardens #Wildlifegardens

Another day at the green oasis - slowed down to half speed for a better appreciation of the wild pond and all who sail in her.
To attract Greenfinches plant a Field Maple tree. They are easy to grow and will proliferate in the local hedgerows, as their seeds spread.

Happiness is a Scotch Thistle
And we have lots of them at Pond Cottage so we should be very happy (when we’re not reading headlines)
And the bees certainly are!

Our meadow in the front, stopping down toward the road, dominated by 10'+ elderberries. You can see Milkweeds, Witchgrass, Black-eyed Susans, and a large green Pokeweed to the right of the white-flowering Elderberries

A cute little Elderberry Sawfly on an elderberry leaf. I love hosting specialist species, and our little wildlife habitat is well enough balance that I don't need to worry about any native species getting out of control

Elderberry umbels: flowers where at the stalks meet at the top of a stem. The white flowers are popping out of the hedge row and leaning over our driveway

Our second episode will be on Elderberries: genus Sambucus. I'm doing the research now, and would be happy for any insights or articles you care to share. I have lots of material, but I could read more! Niladri is editing episode 1.

I love milkweeds. I'm sure that will come through in our Asclepias episode. There's so much to say about a plant genus as interesting in and of itself as milkweed, with myriad wildlife and human connections.

My white flowering currant is alive with bees. At 8pm it was still buzzing with huge queen bumblebees and much smaller, black female hairy footed flower bees. Such a good shrub for wildlife. #bees #wildlifegardens
