A pair of great crested grebes - one male and one female. The male has his display feathers, but they are retracted
A stretch of fen with two transmission towers (pylons, if you prefer, but they are called transmission towers really)
No #heron this morning, but there were #grebes and #Mekons

Idiot in running kit which says DON'T HARASS WOMEN (because don't). On a river bank with a road bridge behind
Grey heron in a river next to the bank.

A whole group of idiots with jackets covered in tatters dancing with brooms.
Idiot in a tweed jacket and cap. He has a smudge of soot on his face and a load of feathers in a pocket. It is sunny and he is smiling because he is an idiot.
About yesterday... @pixelsonapage.bsky.social took these amazing photos of an unknown member of #MepalMolly...

A large group of Molly dancers in colourful costumes all dancing at once outside The Cutter in Ely.
They say it is the largest gathering of Molly dancers in the world...

Photograph of my leg. I am wearing a kilt and wellies.
It is a classic look. I feel like I am 9 again...

#Flooding
A tweed jacket with tatters sewn on, a load of pheasant feathers in the pocket and a collection of badges, most of which are Fen related.
And so it begins...

We'll be in the centre of Cambridge this afternoon, if you dare... (King's Parade, the market, St Andrew's Street)
Black and white image of the River Great Ouse, looking into the sun. The river is mostly frozen over.
It is #NotGoingBackToWorkUntilWednesdayMonday, so I went for a walk in the ice and snow.
#FenLife
A grey heron on the edge of a river, with a dawn sky reflected in the water behind
More absolute scenes from the river bank... I kind of wish I'd had a camera rather than my phone, but I was #running, so...
#Heron

Two sleeping swans, afloat on a river, photographed from above, from the parapet of a bridge. It is dark and lit by a nearby streetlight.
16 days early and 5 swans short. Also they are sleeping, not swimming. They are definitely swans, though...
#FenLife
A fisherman sat on a river bank at night. The picture is dark apart from the fisherman's tackle bag and some foliage, lit by the fisherman's head torch.
I am used to having the river bank to myself at this time of year.
#FenLife
Idiot in running kit by the side of a VERY muddy field. There are heavy tractor tracks and standing water about. Idiot is smiling. And listening to The Wedding Present
I ran today (but not in wellies...)

#QuoteOfTheDay: 'How is wellie sprinting not a thing? 100 m over waterlogged mud in wellies. It could be a classic Fen sport'
#FenLife
Oh that's fabulous!
#FenLife
A grey heron stood on the bow of a narrow boat. A figureheron, if you will.
Idiot in running gear stood in a river marina
Dawn over the fen with mist rising from the ground to meet haze and a graduated apricot sky. Silhouettes of railway gantries and transmission towers
Dawn rising behind the silhouettes of houses and trees.
#RunningPunks #VirtualRunClub includes a #heron for the #BrokenPunks and all in the #NoRunClub, #SelfieSunday, a #DailyRothko, #FenLife and #TooManyHashtags
A grey heron stood on the bank of a cutting just astern of a small cabin cruiser, most of which is out of shot.
Black and white photo of a narrow boat, bow on, hauled out of the water on a patent slip
Some leaves floating on the river. The light is odd and while the river is very still, the camera man is a bit shaky so there is a little movement. One of those photographic accidents that I quite like.
So I went for a run today (with @benefitstheband.bsky.social - third fastest run since my op. Recommend Constant Noise as a running album). There was a #heron, some boats and some autumnal action.
#FenLife
#FenLife (this time not involving running)
A barn lit up from the inside at dusk. There are scattered clouds across a darkening sky behind.
A river with a flat agricultural landscape behind. A transmission tower (or pylon) stands in the middle. It is very cloudy (actually light rain), just after dawn.
Three lights reflected in a river. They are seemed like white lights at the time, but in the photo the outer two are kind of greenish and the middle one has a pink tinge.
Phen Photos will be a bit darker for the next few months...
#FenLife
A view of Boston from the river, with the Boston Stump in the middle. Do you see what I did there?
Trying to figure out where I am today, but I am Stumped...
#FenLife
A transmission tower (electricity pylon if you prefer, but they are actually called transmission towers) in a flat landscape with the first light of dawn behind it.
Apparently this is my favourite transmission tower.
#FenLife
A transmission tower (or electricity pylon) silhouetted against a dawn sky
The river bank at dawn. Only the sky and the river have any light on them, but the river reflects the sky perfectly, separated by silhouettes of trees (also reflected in the still water)
I do love the early autumn mornings.
#FenLife
Black and white photograph of a train shed of a large railway station. It is wrought iron and glass, with transepts. Would it be too much of a clue to say it was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and Matthew Digby Wyatt?
Almost as good as pulling into Ely from the north... #FenLife
Kyle Akin, the stretch of watch between the Isle of Skye and the mainland, viewed from Eilean Bàn. Skye is to the right, with the lower slopes of Sgurr na Coinnich rising above the white houses of Kyleakin harbour. Kyle of Lochalsh, on the mainland, is concealed by a tree in the foreground. The sky is blue with many clouds and a rainbow bridging right across the strait.
Probably can't claim this as #FenLife
A river (the Nene) with a narrow boat and a lovely blue sky
A river meandering through the countryside with blue skies overhead
A ridiculous soggy terrier who ended up.in the river
Ahhh.
#fenlife
Two mute swans with eight cygnets. The cygnets are so small they are little more than grey balls of fluff.
A black headed gull giving me some vicious side-eye.
A couple of different species for today's #FenLife
A pair of great crested grebes, one male, one female and each with a chick on their back
The grebes are down to two chicks, but they are sharing the parenting pretty effectively.
#FenLife
Black and white photo of a flooded water meadow looking into the sun like the photographer thinks they are Man Ray or something. Ely Cathedral in the background.
