A close-up, top-down view of a chunky crochet item made with variegated yarn in shades of icy blue, teal, soft purple, and white. The piece features a mix of dense stitches and open-work mesh, finished with a thick, ruffled scalloped edge. It is resting on a reddish-pink fabric with a white floral pattern
A wide shot of a draped crochet garment, such as a shawl or cowl, displaying a textured bulky weave and a prominent shell-stitch border. The variegated yarn blends tones of blue, lavender, and white. The item is laid out on a patterned floral bedspread, showing the circular, ruffled shape of the piece.
'Work in Progress' pile is officially one item smaller today. Variegated yarn, chunky stitches, and maximum warmth.

A silhouette portrait of two doggos, a shaggy shi tzu in the background and a deer-head chihuahua in the foreground.
#ShowMeYourKnits My main WIP is this tapestry of the two best doggos. We lost Chompsky in 2020 and Pickles in 2024.
It's almost done but I've set it aside for a bit because I'm not quite ready to be finished with it 😭

The shawl is finished, still not blocked but modelled on this lovely gent me and the girls met at a farm open day today at Kin Kin. This is Alex & he’ll be on “Farmer Wants a Wife” Australia in April. We are all going to watch and see if Alex found the woman he was looking for.

The shawl is done! Except for weaving in the ends 😆

A throw made with all the periwinkle, turquoise, sapphire, teal, ocean blue, sky blue, royal blue odds and ends that I could find.
Closeup of the blue blanket
My grandmother once told me, "I love every color as long as it's blue!"
She loved wearing blue and decorating with blue, she loved bluebonnets, she loved bluebirds.
That was the inspiration behind this blanket 💙

2 small balls or hand knit icord in various multiple colors
A cloudy blue sky background with a small tree in the bottom right with the words Verse of the Day James 1:2-3 ESV Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.
FIBERuary 🧶 day 8 - scrap project
I have a LARGE stash of yarn scraps of varying lengths and I hate throwing stuff out, so im knitting some icord to make new "yarn" to eventually weave with!
I nearly missed today... oops 😬

A very purple blue and green variegated yarn ball being knit into a beanie with an orange-y temporary ribbing
A blue and white snowy background with a person walking up the hill with the text Verse of the day 1 Timothy 4:8 ESV "for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come."
FIBERuary 🧶 day 7 - restarting
Im not afraid to frog or restart projects. I hate doing it because of the time I put into it, but it's better to restart and create a better end product than to finish it, and then frog it anyway.

A small woven square made with fluffy purple yarn on top of a diy pin loom
A background of running horses with the Bible verse Hebrews 12:1 ESV - Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us
FIBERuary 🧶 day 6 - diy tools and weaving
Today I built a small pin loom. I tend to make my own tools quite often as someone on a budget, but its a bit more than that. In this world of automation, hands on making is much more freeing? Sure, its cheap, but its mine.

My hand, holding some flax tow. The fiber looks a bit like tangled blond hair, and is a dusty gold color. The flax fiber is in a basket with a bold, blue and white woven pattern.

#CrochetAway: WIP edition!
I have uhhhhh several WIPs right now, but this one is a sweater for my neighbor's doggo.
This is the basic pattern: mariasbluecrayon.com/2020/08/croc...
She's a pittie with broad shoulders and a big chest, so I'm improvising some.

I haven't been able to sit down and focus lately. The holiday gauntlet is in full swing. I crocheted this same blanket in 6mos,this one has taken me 6 hrs. 5,000 more stitches to go until this pheonix is finished. King size afghan . #crochet #crochetsky #knitterandcrocheter #fibersky
A hand holding a ball about the size of a tennis ball. The ball is made of colorful yarn, stitched all over the surface with a buttonhole stitch. There's a flower with a red center and purple petals, and part of a blue curve on a green background.
Another view of the yarn ball. The craft comes from Sweden and uses scrap yarns. It is called a singlade ball.
Another view of the singlade ball. Traditionally, geometric designs are mostly common. In this project, I am experimenting with ways to create more organic, curvilinear forms on the surface of the ball. I "sketched" my design with a chainstitch outline before starting the buttonhole stitching that comprises most of the surface. The core of the ball is made of scrap wool and yarn, wrapped with other yarn ends to the desired size. The surface stitching on this singlade ball uses wool and wool/silk blend knitting and needlepoint yarns.
I made a fancy singlade ball! I created the curvy lines by chainstitching my guidelines and starting my looping/nalbinding/buttonhole stitch from those.

A tumble of freshly-woven reddish cloth draped over an old wooden handloom.
A close-up view of the pattern in the cloth. It is a dark blue cotton warp with red-orange cotton filling forming repeating diamond shapes of different sizes.
A detail of the loom: on the lay shell (usually called the beater) a knot in the wood makes a shape like a small heart. The loom was found in Minnesota, is Scandinavian (Sweden or Norway?) in its design, and probably dates from the peak immigration era in the upper Midwest of the USA, about 1870. Most of the loom is made of pine, with just a few pieces of oak for strength where it's needed; in the swords of the lay and the brake lever.
Another warp off the loom – this pattern is "twill complication" from Davison's "green book." I really love point twills! This is my antique Scandinavian loom from Minnesota. I call this loom "Shorty," because it is unusually small for its age and type.

Six skeins of handspun wool yarn, twisted into hanks and stacked on an old, marble-topped dresser. The yarn is a soft gray, and one side is brightly illuminated by a lamp, while the other is dark. All of the yarn is spun to a grist of about (I hope) 1,800 yards per pound, and is being spun on a Jensen Tina 2 spinning wheel.
About 4,000 yards of handspun singles. This is warp for an upcoming blanket weaving project. I need another 1,000 yards or so of warp, then 3-4,000 for the filling. Thinking about spinning the weft yarns on a great wheel. Wool from my flock.

Work in progress on a small needlepoint project. 8 pointed stars/flowers are worked in different shades of wool and dilk embroidery yarns, on a ribbon that's about 1.5 x 10" long. Itwill get a backing and some ties, and will be used to hold flax or wool on a distaff for spinning.
A little needlepoint WIP. I'm having fun with different color combinations and pattern variations. This will be a fancy ribbon to hold fiber on a distaff.

Handwoven yardage fresh from the loom in a chevron and rose path point twill. Colors are black, green, orange and purple. It is all piled on top of a floor loom with bookshelves behind.
Spooky Towels! These are very late in finishing because of life upheavals but I should get them hemmed this weekend and have next project on the loom next weekend. Also, this fabric feels amazing and now I want to weave yardage for sewing. I’ll have to think about it. #handweaving #fibersky
