The Gut–Muscle Connection: How Microbiome Research Is Changing Athlete Diet Plans Sports nutrition traditionally advises more protein for muscle growth, carbs for energy, and adequate hydration. Recently, gut health has become central in sports nutrition. Researchers now study the gut–muscle connection: digestive bacteria may affect strength, recovery, and endurance. This development represents a substantive shift in sports health, influencing dietary planning for both professional athletes and recreational runners. Let’s break down how these new insights connect to practical nutrition.

Medical Oddities: Muscle Memory Before Birth?  When dad trains offspring gain, bar tricks can end in the OR, guts that linger, empathetic pain, and “natural” immune traps this week.

Can fitness be inherited?

A new mouse study suggests paternal endurance training can reprogram offspring metabolism, leading to fitter, leaner offspring with improved insulin sensitivity, even without exercise.

A Single Weightlifting Session Can Sharpen Thinking, Study Finds The timer beeps, the bar returns to its rack, and something subtle shifts. Breathing steadies. Words feel easier to find. Decisions come faster. If you have ever noticed that your mind seems crisper after lifting weights, a new study gives that sensation scientific backing. Inside the lab, a simple question Researchers set out to test whether a single bout of moderate intensity resistance exercise could sharpen key mental abilities in the short term.

Effectiveness of Iso-Inertial Resistance Training on Muscle Power in Middle-Older Adults: Randomized Controlled Trial Background: Resistance training is commonly used to prevent the decline in muscle power associated with ageing. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of iso-inertial training on power, physical performance, and variables associated with the risk of falls, compared to gravitational training, in physically active middle-older adults. Methods: Parallel-group, randomised controlled trial conducted at Espai Esport Wellness Center (Granollers, Spain). Forty-four physically active adults (age >57) were randomised to either the iso-inertial (n=21) or gravitational (n=23) training groups (R software; 1:1 ratio). Participants completed a 6-week training program (2 sessions/week) consisting of three exercises (forward lunge, side lunge, forward lunge with row). Primary outcome: power in the eccentric phase of each exercise, evaluated using both iso-inertial and gravitational devices. Secondary outcomes: concentric power, physical performance, variables associated with the risk of falls. Only outcome evaluators were blinded. We used multivariate linear regression models for the analysis. Results: Twenty-seven participants completed the program (n=15 iso-inertial, n=12 gravitational). Iso-inertial training resulted in better eccentric power gains compared to gravitational training when assessed using the iso-inertial system, although the difference was only statistically significant for the side lunge. Forward lunge: between-group difference 4.50 W (95% CI: -2.94 to 11.94, p=0.23); side lunge: between-group difference 9.24 W (95% CI: 2.99 to 15.49; p
