Once the Campanulas were done, there were other potted flowers my partner had bought that began to come into bloom. But first, across the top of this photograph is the dark green foliage many fragrant, white jasmine flowers, which flourished as the vines spread across the small, dense hedgerow we’ve made along the side of the patio. The jasmine produced hundreds of flowers, dropping spent ones as fast as it opened new ones. Jasmine feeds bees in daytime & moths by night, when their perfume and bright white blooms attract those night pollinators. Clockwise here, next, is a potted cluster of pink Foxgloves, several stalks in just one pot sporting a bounty of their bell-shaped flowers. This is a short-growing version of Foxgloves, as taller ones we’d tried to plant & even stake invariably fell over or were damaged by winds (and/or next door’s cats). This shorter variety produced an abundance of blooms on several sturdy little stalks, to the delight of bees every day. At around 6 on a clockwise setting are several large-petalled, pink Cosmos, also very popular with bees and pollinators. Here 2 shades of pink - one deeper and one lighter-were growing; although we did get a few white Cosmos in the mix of this potted collection. Its green foliage is lovely, fine and feathery around the base of the flowers. Our Garden Faerie is now leaning over the Cosmos and has green fronds of ferns growing on either side of her, jasmine above. These flowers would prove the last hurrah as far as blooms went. Once these were spent, only two buddleia plants (not seen here & at the very back of our garden) would be left to provide feeding stations for butterflies and bees. The heatwaves truly took their toll, only the indefatigable buddleia-out back & in our small front garden - did well in the sweltering heat & drought of the next couple months. Our tiny “lawn”-always left unmowed for wildflowers-became a dried up wasteland. We’ve since had so much rain it’s green again! -💞

I'm not all about colour pencil, ink and such. When I want a more painterly or softer effect I reach for oil pastels, a great medium to work with, takes a bit of getting used to but worth the effort.
