Autumn at Goodrich, Goodrich Castle on the English side of the Welsh Marches near Ross on Wye. #GoodrichCastle #medieval #WelshMarches #ruins #castle #autumn #fall #architecture #Photography
Turrets and towers in the November sun
The keep as seen from the moat
Looking northwest over the River Wye
Late autumn colours seen from the castle ruins
A glorious day for a castle visit in early November @englishheritage.bsky.social

You're so kind! Mouse also done posts on #GoodrichCastle and #ChepstowCastle too, and more to come in the futureπ
Two Sylvanian Families babies are walking along the top of a stone wall. In the background are the blurred ruins of castle arches with a few plants growing out of the worn stone. On the left, swinging arms and legs, is Pickle, a grey striped cat baby in a blue and pink explorer outfit and blue shoes. Pickle is looking slightly down at a tiny cradled black cat baby in a long blue wrap with high collar, walking next to and looking up at Pickle. It's Reggie!
Me an' Pickle are patrollin'!
It means we're guarding this castle by walking around it. It's fun e'sploring ruins too because you might find treasure.

Goodrich Castle, Herefordshire (England) 'Peter Quinn' image & reconstruction mock-up. Castle was bombarded by the great mortar piece 'Roaring Meg' in 1646. #GoodrichCastle #EnglishCastles #HistoryRebuilt

Farewell #GoodrichCastle with your silver grey keep and sturdy towers, your glowing red sandstone and pointed arches. Mouse miss you even now #HeidiAtGoodrich
As #FireplacesMeanFarewell what of #GoodrichCastle? Mouse loved it and is about to share her #InterestingThingsAtGoodrich. In the meantime she highly recommend a visit and being a fan of a pasty definitely recommends one of these! Well done @englishheritage.bsky.social (get posting) #HeidiAtGoodrich
A little something for #RomanesqueRiday. Perfect 2-light Norman Romanesque window with circular headed lights and central cylindrical pier set in a circular headed 'frame'. An archetype #HeidiAtGoodrich #GoodrichCastle #GoodrichKeep
More of the south-west tower at #GoodrichCastle. Mouse suspects this is a lavabo. A medieval stone wash basin set into the wall. But Mouse never seen one in a castle chamber before. Any other examples? @CastleHunter perchance? #MedievalLavabo #GoodrichTowers #HeidiAtGoodrich
More of the south-west tower at #GoodrichCastle. But wait. What is that tell-tale shape to the right of the upper floor window? A piscina? But in a chamber? #GoodrichTowers #HeidiAtGoodrich
This space has been identified as the 'Great Hall' of #GoodrichCastle with the remains of the south-west tower far end. A C14 addition or at least rebuilding. The Great Chamber is behind us #HeidiAtGoodrich #GoodrichGreatHall Part I of IV. The grey skies of summer

Chamfered segmental pointed arches leading to a place for a nice sit down and a little quiet contemplation with one of the best views you could find. Although apparently later, the arches match those of the C13 construction #GarderobeTuesday from #GoodrichCastle #HeidiAtGoodrich

In a moment of madness Mouse introduce #GarderobeTuesday. The garderobe through these openings in the curtain wall had their own long vanished tower. C15 apparently, which is a long wait for a wee bearing in mind #GoodrichCastle was started C12. The relief! Kept the gong farmer busy #HeidiAtGoodrich
Mouse eye view from the keep at #GoodrichCastle. One word; windy. Very windy. Three words then. And that's Mouse's last offer #HeidiAtGoodrich
A little clue to the date at which the Norman door was blocked; remnants of a 2-light square (headed) window with pointed trefoil lights. Portals at this height tend not to suffer from a #NickedNook

Imagine how dark it is down here when the door closes....
The basement level #GoodrichCastle keep. Mouse do not like it. Mouse do not like it at all (look at the step wear BTW. 800 years of footfall #TowerTuesday #HeidiAtGoodrich #GoodrichKeep: A thread part VI of VI
Looking up from first to third stage of the #GoodrichCastle keep (redundant corbels of the second stage, left) #TowerTuesday #HeidiAtGoodrich #GoodrichKeep: A thread part V of VI
Dated to late C12 (after the appearance of Early English) the keep of #GoodrichCastle remained solidly Norman Romanesque. Strip pilasters (as clasping pilasters at corners) and circular-headed openings #TowerTuesday #HeidiAtGoodrich #GoodrichKeep: A thread part III of XI
The keep of #GoodrichCastle (centre) is grey and contrasts strongly with the red sandstone of the other structures (except it would appear in this light) #TowerTuesday #HeidiAtGoodrich #GoodrichKeep: A thread part II of XI
The oldest existing part of #GoodrichCastle. The keep, flanked by south-west and south-east towers, now largely ruinous. Three stage and basement with a single space on each floor #TowerTuesday #HeidiAtGoodrich #GoodrichKeep: A thread part I of XI
The moulding of this segmental pointed arch had a complex geometry. It's possible that the dressed stone was robbed out which in turn caused the facing stone above to fall away #InTheCastleChapel #GoodrichCastle #HeidiInGoodrich
There is so much going on here. The facing stone has fallen away revealing the rubble fill underneath, but even more interesting revealing how the segmental pointed rere arch has been built #InTheCastleChapel #GoodrichCastle #HeidiAtGoodrich
Well. You irritating little mus, you've been #InTheCastleChapel and #IntoTheGatehouse but where are you hiding? Why it's Goodrich Castle and a jolly lovely castle it is too #GoodrichCastle. Cue postcard type picture
A lovely morning exploring #goodrichcastle - one of the best preserved Marcher castles on the Welsh border. #plushietravel
