A Great Crested Grebe stands on its nest, facing to the right. The nest is made of waterweed and reeds, contains a single white egg, and floats on the water surrounded by reeds. The bird has a white breast and underparts, brown back, and black wings, It has a white face, long orange/brown cheek feathers, and a black crest on the top of its head. Its long, elegent neck is curled up rather than being stretched out.
This Great Crested Grebe may not be showing off its #LongNeck for #BirdOfTheDay but it is happy to show off its egg!

A Great Crested Grebe, facing to the right, swims on water whilst holding a large brown fish in its beak. The bird has a long body with a black back and brown underparts. Its S shaped neck is largely white with a black stripe running down the back. It has a white face with long decorative orange/brown feathers on the side of its head and a crest of black feathers on top. After a prlonged struggle the Grebe was eventually able to swallow the fish - it definitely looked a bit uncomfirtable afterwards!
