What better way to aid digestion of Christmas dinner than a Boxing Day snorkel in River Wissey. Saw no trout, but handsome Bullhead & a few Three-spined Sticklebacks, incl. this diseased one.
Also, of course, a laptop & clay pipe.

A crop of Ganoderma bracket fungi bathed in the reflected ripples of the beautiful, fast flowing River Wissey.

Also found old stoneware flagon on the bed of the River Wissey.
Plenty Ramshorn Snails (Signal Crayfish: 1 dead, 1 alive)
Some patches of quite short Water Crowfoot.
And an outflow perhaps from nearby house.
Water beautifully clear.

Look! My best #chalkstream find yet - a River God!
(Can't wait for @anicolson's article on #chalkstreams in @NatGeo next year!)

I wonder if there is a way to get my new Olympus Tough TG-6 to focus on the Water Crowfoot in one shot that comes straight up from Brown Trout under water?

The Brown Trout parr have to work quite hard to stay in the same spot in the brisk River Wissey. Some individuals at least are in the same spot week after week. #Ickburgh #Wissey #RiverWissey #Chalkstreams #Chalkstream #Norfolk #browntrout #trout #troutparr

Wagtails were feeding on the rafts of Chalk-stream Water Crowfoot on the River Wissey, the yellow rump of young Grey Wagtails blending with the flower hearts, while the Banded Demoiselles mirrored the water.

A breath-takingly glorious, display of Chalk Stream Water Crowfoot (Ranunculus penicillatus) on the River Wissey.

River Wissey absolutely teeming in Brown Trout. Amazing range of individual variation in patterning.

Among the abundant and confiding Brown Trout parr in the River Wissey, a beautiful black one with gold barring.

In the Wissey surrounded by Brown Trout of all sizes, the river cloaked in a flowing, star studded gown of Chalk-stream Water Crowfoot, the only way I knew I hadn't died & gone to heaven was the absence of sunshine.

Divine swim in River Wissey. Swarming with Brown Trout, mostly parr but a few up to 30 cm. A privilege to be in the cool, clear water with them. Also lots young Perch. Observed by a pair of Grey Wagtails. #MySwim #Ickburgh #Wissey #ChalkStream #Breckland #Norfolk @Britnatureguide
