A very blurry image that nonetheless proves that harlequin ducks are among the four prettiest species of duck. Here are four of them frolicking on a rock in the intertidal, with waves hitting rocks behind them.
A black oystercatcher, a nearly perfectly black bird with red bill and eyes and pink legs, walking through the sandy intertidal surrounded by perfect little holes to catch invertebrates in.
It was a great weekend for birdwatching, but not so much for bird photography. You'll have to trust me that these harlequin ducks did their part for me - gorgeous ducks, gorgeous light - but I just didn't have the lens for it. The oystercatchers were out in force too.
