Today, we have 2 minerals that do weird things with polarized light, & look kinda blue doing it. #Haüyne is "sometimes" used as a gem, & didn't catch our fancy. Now, #Jeremejevite is a rare crystal prized in jewelry BUT ALSO can generate electricity under pressure (Piezoelectric #IYKYK). eRock wins!

Normally, I'd go with the volcanic mineral all the time because I like all things volcano, but I was persuaded to go with #Jeremejevite because when you smash it, it makes electricity and that is hella cool.

I was on the verge of tipping toward #Haüyne, but a bit more reading and discovered that the reverse piezoelectric effect is a thing. If you apply an electric field to a #Jeremejevite crystal, it will actually physically warp a tiny bit, as if it's under pressure. This can make ultrasound waves!
#Jeremejevite is apparently even harder to find than it is to pronounce! It seems to be associated with pegmatites: late-crystalizing melts found in granitic intrusions, that - very, *very* occasionally - have the necessary weird composition to allow it to form!

All three from the Emmelberg location in the Eifel, Germany, found some 30 years ago. I should probably get a proper microscope with camera equipment again.
